You're not supposed to edit other user's userpages without their permission, unless it's fixing a moved image link or removing false info/other policy violations. If you want to change something, it's wise to leave a message on their talk page beforehand—if they allow you to (exception to this is fixing an image link, but only if the image was moved already). Just letting you know. I'd like to clarify a few things:
#Posting on the talk page of a vandal is indeed discouraged, however at all times, one must assume good faith. Considering the possibility that the offender may indeed have not known that what they were doing was wrong (unlikely I know, but not impossible), I posted a new message on their page describing what has happened and what they should do next time.
#Extending from this, the message that SonicSpeed initially posted was a poor attitude to take for any user. Even on genuine offenders requiring warnings, users must try to refrain from using any sort of accusatory tone in their posts, under SW:NPA.
#As for removing talk posts, while <s>strike out</s> is NORMALLY the only way of retracting a bad comment you made, you are allowed to delete the comment entirely if both of the following conditions are met:
#*You only just posted the comment
#*Nobody else has replied to it

Fair enough, except that you violated SW:1RV by double-reverting it. There's another problem too, and one that still requires your edit to be taken down. I'll ask you to do it though, and here's why. I was discussing this on the Discord but basically, it could be an error due to the game's development status, one that might be fixed in the completed game. As Aidanzapunk pointed out to me: "remember, the April Smash Direct from 2014 had Diddy and Lucario's Brawl artworks in place of their (known) Smash 4 portraits." For that reason alone, the trivia point needs to be taken down. <span style="color: black;">Black Vulpine</span> of the Furry Nation. == About the Smash Blog Quotes ==
Let me just say this, I'm not leaving a job "half-finished." I'm adding the blog update as it is in English, the Japanese updates sometimes add more to the quote. I myself do not speak Japanese, so I add the English quote. I make the base outline of the quote, what ever is added thereafter is not my concern. If you want to add the additional parts from the Japanese quote, feel free to, but please don't accuse me of leaving a job half-finished because I didn't wait for Source Gaming to translate it. Sorry if I'm coming across as a jerk as that is not my intention at all, I'm just trying to explain why I don't add that extra sliver of info the Japanese quote has. The IP's edit summary quite clearly states why your edit summary is irrelevant. We already know for sure Ridley will have some form of Meta Ridley alt in the game, which was not available in the demo. This is strong evidence that the costumes seen in the demo are not finalized and/or some characters may have more than eight. To say Mario definitely won't have those comments is speculative. I'm bringing this up to you now that i am aware of what you've been doing. It has come to my attention that you've been re-uploading pre-existing images in lower quality .jpeg formats, when .png is the preferred format of the wiki. Other Users have also made mention that you have a bad habit of re-naming pictures for no reason. So I am asking you to please, leave everything alone. We already have a system set in place, if you feel the need to re-name images thats fine, but please mark the original file name for deletion rather than leave a trail of re-directs. And you shouldnt upload an image thats already on the wiki when, as I said before, the .png format is preferred by the rest of the wiki staff, including the wiki admins.<br>Ixbran (talk) 21:48, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
:Then tell me why almost every single picture taken from the website is in a .jpg format, and always has an "SSBUWebsite1" type of title. ::1) Because the official site has the images in .jpg, and most people upload directly from the url links just because it's easier (as opposed to resaving it on your cpu as png). It has nothing to do with consistency. 2) That was just a name somebody gave them. The name, however, has no impact on articles. So I still don't understand the need to have the names so exact and precise. And I would also argue that most have that title because you renamed them as such. ::::.jpeg takes up less space and so for most gaming websites uploading them in .jpeg takes less strain on its servers. Wiki's though are public domain and so they are taken care of by special host servers that can easily process .png files. when a picture is shrunk down to a thumbnail, or any other size smaller than its default, as a .jpeg it loses its quality and becomes distorted and pixilated, which could give a false impression of the image's actual quality. But .png's stay clear and clean regardless of how small they are, so they help keep page profiles cut and clean at a glance. that is why they are the preferred format by the rest of the wiki contributors, both the standard ones and the admins. We go to great lengths to ensure pictures are uploaded in high quality .png format.<br><br>As for the file names, the names of the images on the website are to make it easier for the site it self to process and organize everyhting sure, but we have our own way of processing and organizing file names. We list; character/stage name: if its a screen shoot or a render: then what Smash game its for via an abbreviation (SSBB, SSB4, SSBU, ect). It makes things easier on us here on the wiki for the sake of categorization and how to find what image from what game. The current smash website only lists SSBU images. What do we do for the next game when there are other official screenshots with the exact same file names on the website for the new game? If alucard were to return as an assist trophy in SSB6, we can't upload the file as 'AlucardOfficialSiteScreenshot1.jpeg' if theres already a file with that name.<br>Ixbran (talk) 22:08, 23 August 2018 (EDT)

Hi there!
Welcome to our wiki, and thank you for your contributions! There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us and make many more improvements.
- Read this first as it provides many great resources designed to help users get oriented with the wiki and become part of the community.
- Visit the recent changes to see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
- Questions? You can ask at the help desk or on the "discussion" page associated with each article, or post a message on my talk page!
- Need help? The community portal has an outline of the site, and pages to help you learn how to edit.
I'm really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!
In general, if you have many edits to make to a page (even a long one with many sections), it is better to do so in one edit as opposed to many smaller ones. This prevents cluttering Recent Changes and the page's history. Miles (talk) 00:11, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
Regarding tables
Though you haven't made several consecutive edits, you may still need to use Preview. If you did that, you'll reduce the chance of having to fix that edit or having someone else fix it for you. If you previewed that edit you made in the Character customization page, you would have noticed that your edit threw off Dark Pit's row. If you haven't noticed, Pit's row had a rowspan="2" for the Control Arrow cell. This allows that cell to occupy the next row as well. This was made that way because both had Control Arrow, and as their rows are adjacent, it caused some repetition. Just letting you know. Berrenta (talk) 15:45, 24 September 2014 (EDT)
Wolf Flash
In-game, it's called the "Wolf Flash", not the "Fox Flash". Please do not change it. PikaSamus (talk) 14:57, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
Image Naming
An image name such as "File:Screen Shot 2014-11-18 at 12.49.17 PM.png" is inappropriate and doesn't tell what the image is supposed to be. Please, when uploading images, remember to appropriately name them and appropriately tag them. See SW:IMAGE for more details. Thank you. Rtzxy Reflect! 14:59, 18 November 2014 (EST)
Edits to User:AwesomeLuigi
You're not supposed to edit other user's userpages without their permission, unless it's fixing a moved image link or removing false info/other policy violations. If you want to change something, it's wise to leave a message on their talk page beforehand—if they allow you to (exception to this is fixing an image link, but only if the image was moved already). Just letting you know. If you got permission beforehand to edit, then ignore this message. Rtzxy Reflect! 15:30, 2 December 2014 (EST)

On uploading images
- If you're uploading a screenshot of a Smash game, be sure to tag it as fair use while uploading.
- If you're uploading a screenshot of a Smash game that isn't the proper quality and/or resolution, be sure to tag it as lowquality.
Thanks. Miles (talk) 15:11, 12 January 2015 (EST)

- Sign your comments with ~~~~. I don't really know how many times I have to tell you about this. It is a rule that you have to sign your comments with four tildes. To make a tilde, press the shift button on your keyboard, and there is a little button above the Tab button. Press it four times, and you should have the requirements for a signature. Reverted edits
If your edit is reverted, please check the page history to understand the other user's reasons for doing so. If you disagree or want to discuss the subject, take it to the relevant page's talk page. Miles (talk) 10:02, 29 July 2015 (EDT)
Custom moves in lists
Please actually link to the names of custom moves, and create the redirect if necessary, instead of using the wordier "(custom X)" alongside. This stops the bracketed notes from having two different meanings (one being the custom specifier, and the other being the specific-part-of-attack specifier). - Also regarding this other edit:
“ | For the most part, editing talk page comments after they been posted is discouraged and typically not allowed. (...) However, if you made a statement or said anything you wish to retract, you may add strike tags <s></s> to the offending portion of the comment to signify this. | ” |
—SW:TALK |
I'd like to clarify a few things:
- Posting on the talk page of a vandal is indeed discouraged, however at all times, one must assume good faith. Considering the possibility that the offender may indeed have not known that what they were doing was wrong (unlikely I know, but not impossible), I posted a new message on their page describing what has happened and what they should do next time.
- Extending from this, the message that SonicSpeed initially posted was a poor attitude to take for any user. Even on genuine offenders requiring warnings, users must try to refrain from using any sort of accusatory tone in their posts, under SW:NPA.
- As for removing talk posts, while
strike outis NORMALLY the only way of retracting a bad comment you made, you are allowed to delete the comment entirely if both of the following conditions are met:- You only just posted the comment
- Nobody else has replied to it

About Mario
Fair enough, except that you violated SW:1RV by double-reverting it. There's another problem too, and one that still requires your edit to be taken down. I'll ask you to do it though, and here's why. I was discussing this on the Discord but basically, it could be an error due to the game's development status, one that might be fixed in the completed game. As Aidanzapunk pointed out to me: "remember, the April Smash Direct from 2014 had Diddy and Lucario's Brawl artworks in place of their (known) Smash 4 portraits." For that reason alone, the trivia point needs to be taken down. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 23:45, 25 June 2018 (EDT)

This
Just like the rest of them, this does against the fact that SmashWiki is not speculative. Sakurai has been very vague about whether or not it's just the 8 or all 12. Even your quote supports this, as he only says the "roster", and does not specify beyond that. Aidan, the College-Bound Rurouni 23:45, 13 July 2018 (EDT)
- So what you’re saying is that you want this instead of the Original 12? Speed48 11:57, 14 July 2018 (EDT)
- It's not what we want or even what we expect. It is what has been clearly stated and what we can accurately report as an encyclopedia. Sakurai has proven time and time again that he makes unpredictable decisions; it is best to only report on what he states definitively. TheNuttyOne 11:59, 14 July 2018 (EDT)
- Fine, but I’m not going to edit that out of the 10 Nintendo Wikipedias that the Original 12 have pages on. Speed48 12:38, 14 July 2018 (EDT)

"Bub"/"Bud"
I don't think it's enough to qualify as a violation of NPA, but the use of "bub"/"bud"/etc. in summaries such as this one, even if it wasn't the intention, can feel very patronizing and insulting and can potentially offend or enrage another user, creating unnecessary drama. Just thought I'd point it out so you can be more careful. TheNuttyOne 20:00, 15 July 2018 (EDT)
Trivia
Several of your trivia points have been deemed not noteworthy or uninteresting. I recommend checking this out before doing any more. Serpent King 22:51, 30 July 2018 (EDT)

About the Smash Blog Quotes
Dakota.952 22:58 August 1 2018 (EDT)
- Oh, well I'm sorry for the confusion, Dakota. I never meant to come off as a jerk either, I just get a bit confused why the last part wasn't on. Speed48 23:11, 1 August 2018 (EDT)
- It's alright, as I've read over my original comment it might've looked a bit harsh. Sorry about that! Dakota.952 1:14, August 2 2018 (EDT)
This
It looks pretty bad when an admin goes against the very rule(s) they try to keep enforced, so I'll bring this here: none of the other Mario characters have that sort of mention to the mainline series, unlike Bowser, so that's not really an argument that you can use, if you ask me. Aidan, the College-Bound Rurouni 03:03, 4 August 2018 (EDT)
Le this
(trying not to repeat header titles, lol)
The IP's edit summary quite clearly states why your edit summary is irrelevant. We already know for sure Ridley will have some form of Meta Ridley alt in the game, which was not available in the demo. This is strong evidence that the costumes seen in the demo are not finalized and/or some characters may have more than eight. To say Mario definitely won't have those comments is speculative. TheNuttyOne 14:28, 6 August 2018 (EDT)
- Also going to add that your edit summary had an unnecessary amount of attitude. Try to watch that, please. TheNuttyOne 14:28, 6 August 2018 (EDT)

Is a violation of SW:1RV. Specifically, the part that says, "Do not revert another user's revert because it is in violation of this policy. This will only escalate the problem." May I ask
Just why you replaced the Multiple Special Moves template to two Special Moves templates? That template was created for that specific reason. It is for that I will be reverting your edits. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Sonic Fan Leave a message if needed 23:14, 13 August 2018 (EDT)
- That's only because it's not exactly that easy to access the out-of-reach character charts on mobile sites, and mine is on a desktop setting. Plus it looks really wonky when it goes out of the border of the page. Speed48 23:16, 13 August 2018 (EDT)
Moon images
Those images do not come from the website, so renaming is not only unnecessary but also inaccurate. VoqéoT 15:56, 19 August 2018 (EDT)
- I must apologize for my rudeness: it turns out that a couple of those moon images are also on the website under the items section. I was mistaken because I got them here, which also has images not found on the website, such as the newer stage images that Moonboy65 uploaded. VoqéoT 06:31, 20 August 2018 (EDT)
About this recent reversion
Your passive-aggressive name-calling is also a violation to SW:NPA. Please be more careful next time regarding both of these policies. — Nokii (T·C·L) 21:05, 19 August 2018 (EDT)
- I'm sorry, it's just that I couldn't take anymore of his constant vandalism, that I completely forgot about the "NPA" rule. I'll try to be more reasonable next time, I promise. Speed48 21:16, 19 August 2018 (EDT)
Not to mention YOUR edit ALSO went against 1RV. Awesomelink234, the Super Cool Sonic Fan Leave a message if needed 21:17, 19 August 2018 (EDT)- Nevermind, it doesn't, I forgot about this part: "Exception: In cases of obvious vandalism, this rule does not apply. This also includes edits that violate other policies (e.g removing talk page messages), or edits that an administrator has deemed counterproductive." Images
Not to sound rude, but why in general are you so particular about images for all these redirects, renaming, reuploading, etc. to take place? Especially when it doesn't affect the articles they're in any way (or have any effect for that matter)? VoqéoT 21:46, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
- Is it wrong that someone likes having things be consistent with pre-existing material? Speed48 21:55, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
Can you please stop?
I'm bringing this up to you now that i am aware of what you've been doing. It has come to my attention that you've been re-uploading pre-existing images in lower quality .jpeg formats, when .png is the preferred format of the wiki. Other Users have also made mention that you have a bad habit of re-naming pictures for no reason. So I am asking you to please, leave everything alone. We already have a system set in place, if you feel the need to re-name images thats fine, but please mark the original file name for deletion rather than leave a trail of re-directs. And you shouldnt upload an image thats already on the wiki when, as I said before, the .png format is preferred by the rest of the wiki staff, including the wiki admins.
Ixbran (talk) 21:48, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
- Then tell me why almost every single picture taken from the website is in a .jpg format, and always has an "SSBUWebsite1" type of title. Speed48 21:52, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
- 1) Because the official site has the images in .jpg, and most people upload directly from the url links just because it's easier (as opposed to resaving it on your cpu as png). It has nothing to do with consistency. 2) That was just a name somebody gave them. The name, however, has no impact on articles. So I still don't understand the need to have the names so exact and precise. And I would also argue that most have that title because you renamed them as such. VoqéoT 21:58, 23 August 2018 (EDT)
- Yes, but I wasn't the one that started naming the first website pictures like that in the first place. I'm just trying to follow suit. I'm sorry my work is such a huge bother to you guys. Speed48 22:02, 23 August 2018 (EDT)

- .jpeg takes up less space and so for most gaming websites uploading them in .jpeg takes less strain on its servers. We go to great lengths to ensure pictures are uploaded in high quality .png format.
As for the file names, the names of the images on the website are to make it easier for the site it self to process and organize everyhting sure, but we have our own way of processing and organizing file names. If alucard were to return as an assist trophy in SSB6, we can't upload the file as 'AlucardOfficialSiteScreenshot1.jpeg' if theres already a file with that name.

Reverting
What is your reasoning for undoing these changes (1 2 3 4) by PleasePleasePepper? His rationale was "clarified *dedicated* handheld, since the Switch also functions as one, which would take out Bayo and Inklings". Do you disagree, and why? – Emmett 12:21, 21 September 2018 (EDT)
- Thanks for coming to my defense. I came here to ask the same thing. The Switch is definitely a semi-handheld console, so I don't see what issues would arise from adding that distinction. --PleasePleasePepper (talk) 13:34, 21 September 2018 (EDT)
Article icons
Hey, I've noticed you sometimes edit the "articleIcon" template on some articles just to change "ssbm", "ssbb" and "ssbu" into "melee", "brawl" and "ultimate", respectively. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind those changes, since all it ultimately does is increase the article's size by 1 to 6 bits, and the result is the same. Could you explain your logic to me? Ponyshment 11:52, 23 September 2018 (EDT)
- I guess it's a force of habit, I suppose? I just thought since they had names, it would be better for a new editor to understand what the abbreviations meant. Speed48 13:22, 23 September 2018 (EDT)
- They aren't really necessary. It's not really that hard for a new editor to work out what they mean. I can understand why you might think otherwise though. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 18:48, 23 September 2018 (EDT)
