You don't do a copy-paste move; you have to move them with the "move" button. I undid the edit because the table you made is good for the Super Smash Bros 4 page. However, since it has stages in both versions, it's not necessary to mention stages for both versions on an article that talks about a particular version of Super Smash Bros 4. Hi there![edit]
Welcome to our wiki, and thank you for your contributions! There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us and make many more improvements.
- Read this first as it provides many great resources designed to help users get oriented with the wiki and become part of the community.
- Visit the recent changes to see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
- Questions? You can ask at the help desk or on the "discussion" page associated with each article, or post a message on my talk page!
- Need help? The community portal has an outline of the site, and pages to help you learn how to edit.
I'm really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!
display title thing[edit]
why would we even need that Red (talk) 08:43, 24 May 2014 (EDT)
- 'Cuz it's consistent with how we format things in the articles? Besides, I was bored and it was early morning. Perfect time for some repetitive custodial work. VinLAURiA (talk) 10:38, 24 May 2014 (EDT)
Symbols[edit]
I remeber you asked me a while ago if I have the symbol .svgs somewhere. Well I do now, but Dropbox basically doesn't allow you to link to folders. Do you know of a better way to link you to the files than posting a list of 50 items somewhere? Toomai Glittershine The Aurum 18:08, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
- Er... Too late. I just reconstructed them. VinLAURiA (talk) 18:20, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
- Actually, tell ya the truth, can't you just host them on the SmashWiki even if we can't use them on pages for the time being? I'd like to eventually move over to SVGs as it is anyway. VinLAURiA (talk) 21:19, 15 June 2014 (EDT)
- Well I dunno. I haven't tried uploading SVGs here in a long time, because the last time I attempted to do so, the wiki's renderer butchered them (and I don't just mean small errors at smaller sizes, I mean things like "giant line through the image"). It's reasonable to say something might have changed since then, but with no real reason to change to SVGs I haven't really considered checking. Toomai Glittershine The Brass 22:11, 15 June 2014 (EDT)
Those "shortcut" templates[edit]
What's the point of them? Toomai Glittershine The Trumpeteer 16:23, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- Figured I'd put them in to match how we still have the For3DS and ForWiiU templates, as a quick shorthand. You said you didn't have a problem with those two for the time being, although that was several months ago. VinLAURiA (talk) 16:24, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- My issue with these ones is how Brawl and Brawl are very similar in code, and identical in function, but look totally different on the page. It's ripe for confusion. Could we figure out a way to improve that? Toomai Glittershine The Steppin' 16:27, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- full for the full title, and retroactively added to the For3DS and ForWiiU ones? Although on a related note, I'm sort of stuck on what the shortcut should be for the first Smash. Smash64, Smash... SSB64 would be pretty close to the existing SSB template which has a completely different function, though that makes me wonder if we should somehow merge these shortcut templates into the existing SSB, SSBM, SSBB, etc. templates without screwing with their current functionality. VinLAURiA (talk) 16:32, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- Maybe instead a Brawl, or SSBB? (It would replace the existing "for3ds"/"forwiiu".) I think we should keep to not having a template for naturally short redirects like Brawl. Toomai Glittershine The Aurum 16:39, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- How about the name Smash for that template, then? That way it sort of works like how you'd naturally say it, like 64, Brawl, 4, and U. VinLAURiA (talk) 18:24, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- Well, more like it works for how some weirdos naturally say it because they think it's acceptable when it really isn't. :P Toomai Glittershine The Spark 22:21, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

These templates are very unintuitive, don't read clearly and aren't obvious at all. What's the point, exactly? Miles (talk) 23:03, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- Er, I already explained what the point was just above. Thanks for the speedy-delete on those three, though; we decided to consolidate to the Smash template. VinLAURiA (talk) 23:05, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- The 3DS and Wii U ones are useful due to having a useful, very brief shorthand. The templates you were adding are less intuitive, take more code than the 3DS/Wii U ones and would require a lot of back-work to implement. Essentially, it's just adding work where there doesn't need to be any. Miles (talk) 23:08, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- Yeah, and now we have a template that serves a purpose for all five games. Besides, don't we have a parser that can globally batch-replace text? VinLAURiA (talk) 23:11, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- It's not better. It is a clear downgrade and it costs effort to implement an inherently less clear system. It's not going to change unless you can make one hell of an argument for it. It's also outrageously brazen to tag for speedy deletion templates that are on hundreds of pages. Miles (talk) 23:14, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

We had this, it was Template:G, it was deleted. Why? Because the point of these shortcut templates is to shorten code that is really space-taking. Brawl and Melee don't take up too much space, and Smash won't fix much; there are 6 pages that this can link to. Combine this with the fact there are only supposed to be two or three links to a single place on one page (even one, on smaller articles), and you have a really, really limited template. The template differs from others because of its limitations; take a template like this and there are 59 places to link to; this one in particular works on any page with sections. The reason we have for3ds and its counterpart is because, as mentioned before, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS takes up too much space, and is a very big pain in the ass to type out, even without the link.
And another thing: Toomai never said he was fine with it (at least not that I can see on this page). Qwerty (talk) 23:55, 24 October 2014 (EDT)
- Well, I assumed he was fine with it because he'd obviously been keeping an eye on the change feed to bring it up in the first place, and he deleted the 'Smashbros' template I decided against and marked for speedy-delete yet left the 'Smash' template alone. VinLAURiA (talk) 04:19, 1 November 2014 (EDT)
- I think I marked the Smash template for deletion (not speedy, we're coming to a conclusion here) before he could. As for the second part, he stated a bit further up how the Smash template isn't effective at becoming a shorthand for naturally short links like Brawl.
