Ness performs a stomp attack, dealing 12%. This attack was nerfed from Smash 64 because of a number of factors; its speed was severely nerfed (comes out on frame 5 in Smash 64 but now comes out on frame 20 in Melee with much longer ending lag), it can no longer be used in DJC combos (because of its speed being hindered), it deals less damage/knockback scaling (from 15%/100 to 12%/70). It, however, has much higher base knockback (from 20 to 90), making it an extremely deadly KO option at 0%, if the opponent doesn't meteor cancel, so the move is still effective in Melee, despite it being nerfed.

Ness performs a stomp attack below him. The move has a decent amount of startup, somewhat high ending lag, and some landing lag (especially compared to its previous incarnation) so this can be a risky move to use. On the other hand, it autocancels the entire time there is no hitbox, which is a step above most other aerials. The down aerial functions as Ness' meteor smash to edgeguard and has very high base knockback, but has low knockback scaling, so it cannot KO until 200% on grounded opponents.

OverviewEdit

Hitbox duration of Ness's down aerial.
