We could just remove the "Members of the group" section. Should we really be using this as the main image for this page?
It's of art that otherwise has nothing to do with Smash and would fit better under an "Origin" section (And even then, there currently doesn't seem to be a good place for it in that aspect, either). Plus, it shows a bunch of characters that either aren't playable or even in the Smash series at all.
I feel like a better picture for this page would be a group photo of the actual space animals (I'm favoring towards the shot of Fox and Falco facing Wolf in King K. Rool's trailer, but just an in-game screenshot is still fine enough). SuperSmashTurtles (talk) 01:30, May 8, 2019 (EDT)

Now that a Smash-related image showing all three Star Fox characters has been uploaded to this page, I feel it's time to remove the other 2 images as neither of them have anything to do with the space animsls terminology and they contain several characters that aren't even playable or even appear at all in the Smash series (the latter especially for the Star Fox Adventures image). This is an article whose title has been long antiquated, I almost never actually see nor hear anyone say "space animal" outside of this wiki since I got involved in competitive Smash in the early 2010s, whereas "spacie" has been unquestionably ubiquitous in usage for a very very long time now. Sure "spacie" can be considered shorthand for "space animal", but when the "full term" almost never gets used outside of this wiki, and when "spacie" also flows a whole lot better in written text and spoken speech, we should not keep promoting such an antiquated and clunky term by using it for this article's title. Omega Tyrant 18:28, May 28, 2023 (EDT)

A few suggestions:

 • Who coined this term?
 • When was this term coined?
 • Why is Captain Falcon considered a Space Animal?

I do not know the answers, and am just proposing the idea. --Tomm 19:38, September 26, 2007 (EDT)

Definitely valid unofficial lingo. If nothing else, it just acts as a disambiguation page for smashers who haven't heard the term before. I approve of this page. *thumbs up* -- RJM Talk 23:50, October 14, 2007 (EDT)

Yes. But it's always Falco, Fox, or (now) Wolf referred to. --Sky (t | c | w)`
Question: What similar characteristics do the Starfox characters share with Captain Falcon? Whoever did this needs to explain - CF, Fox, Wolf, and Falco have no common characteristics. - Runer5h
They're all male ;P
is there really a point to having this page up? and technically captian falcon isn't a "animal." Last i checked he was a human like samus and UNLIKE fox, falco, and wolf ( who oddly are all from the same series.....which is full of "space animals. go figure) and if you were to include kirby in this ( y'all will argue his way into this somehow) wouldn't you have to include meta knight ( who supposedly is like kirby ? )and dedede ( who is supposedly a penguin? ) the term "space animals" may need to apply to characters who litterally are animals and it shows in there moveset or actions. there's my opinion and again i expect plenty of backlash. Carbonkirby 22:00, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
For the record, humans are animals too. But seriously, while I agree with the PREMISE of this article, I wish there could be a better name. I'm pretty sure it's only supposed to refer to Star Fox universe characters, and "space animals" is pretty much the simplest way you can group them. Would "anthropomorphic starfighters" be any better? - Gargomon251 22:32, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
If Captain Falcon is grouped with them might as well add EVERY single character except R.O.B. Since most of the other characters are human or some sort of animal ( I.E. the pokemon )and R.O.B. is a robot ( hence his name ). Let's just leave it with the star fox characters before this gets out of hand Carbonkirby 22:38, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Popular usage within the community vetoes any chance of deleting a page like this, but you are correct to point out the fact that Captain Falcon doesn't really belong in this category. Not even in popular usage, frankly. Nobody would ever consider a Falcon vs. Fox match a "space animal ditto," for instance. --Randall00 00:04, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I would like this topic revisited[edit]

Before making a drastic edit to this page, I would like to say that Captain Falcon is NOT a space animal. In addition to the obvious aesthtic differences, his falling speed may be close to both Fox and Falco, but it is different enough such that he isn't vulnerable to combos that affect real space animals like Jigglypuff's Up Throw -> Rest or Marth's Up Throw chain grab. Other chain grabs that work on both space animals and Falcon usually work at different percentages such as Peach's Up Throw chain grab. In the smash community Space Animals are defined by their combo/shield pressure ability and how much tech skill is required to play them. Yes, Falcon has combos of his own too, but they are vastly different from Fox's and Falco's. Heck actually, all the top tier characters have insane combos anyway, it's just that they don't take nearly as much tech skill to pull off. Falcon's combos are done by L-canceling and reading. Fox's/Falco's are done by frame perfect waveshines and SHFFLs. Another thing that defines space animals is similarity in matchups. Fox and Falco have a slight advantage to even matchup against Sheik whereas Falcon gets totally destroyed by Sheik. To conclude, I would like to propose that it should be fact that Captain Falcon is not a space animals. I don't know a single competitive smasher in the modern melee community who would oppose this. Thoughts?--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 19:56, 2 February 2013 (EST)

Just some things I'll point out;
I don't know a single competitive smasher in the modern melee community who would oppose this.
This is as much of a Brawl term as it is a Melee term.
Another thing that defines space animals is similarity in matchups.
Not at all. They all have nonsimilar matchups in Brawl, outside all four of them getting wrecked by Pikachu (which contradicts your claim that they don't uniquely suffer from most of the same combos/chain throws). And similarity in matchups in Melee of Fox and Falco is more of an attribute to them being top tier clones.
Other chain grabs that work on both space animals and Falcon usually work at different percentages such as Peach's Up Throw chain grab.
Slightly differing percentages in which chain throws work doesn't really mean anything. Pikachu's d-throw in Brawl throws them at slightly different percentages, they all still get wrecked horribly by it.
The rest of the stuff is pretty much irrelevant (their combos and the way they're played isn't why they got the space animal moniker), and misses why they're called space animals. If you are to argue this, don't just argue it from a Melee standpoint as well. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 20:13, 2 February 2013 (EST)
