Kyogre is a massive legendary Pokémon appearing as a blue whale with wing-like fins and red patterned markings. It is viewed by mythology provided by the Pokédex as either the creator of the sea or the being responsible for its expansion by covering the land with torrential rains and towering tidal waves. It is also viewed as having saved people who were suffering from droughts, and is said to have engaged in a cataclysmic years-long battle with Groudon, afterwards taking to sleep at the bottom of the sea. Mythology aside, Kyogre slumbers at the bottom of a marine trench, and has the power to control water and create massive rain clouds that cover the entire sky and bring about torrential downpours.

Kyogre is a legendary Pokémon that made its debut in the 3rd Generation games Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire for the Game Boy Advance. Kyogre, a winged whale, is the "cover mascot" of the Sapphire Version and the opposing counterpart to the Ruby Version's cover mascot Groudon. Team Aqua, a rival of Team Magma, have a desire to capture Kyogre and use it's power to make Hoenn have more seas than land, while Team Magma does the opposite, but with Groudon.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the first Super Smash Bros. game to include Kyogre, as Kyogre didn't exist when the first two games were made. When summoned from a Poké Ball, Kyogre appears to fly around using Hydro Pump, where it shoots water out of its mouth. While Kyogre does damage when it is touched, but it's attack does no damage and is like Mario's F.L.U.D.D and Squirtle's Water Gun and is useful for stopping recoveries. It tends to target one character until he disappears, making it a godsend on small crowded maps. Kyogre is a rare Poké Ball, as are other legendaries.

Kyogre returns as a Poké Ball summon once again, however, Kyogre's Hydro Pump has been greatly enlarged and goes slightly faster than before, with Kyogre lasting on the stage longer than it had in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Kyogre (カイオーガ, Kyogre) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin[edit]

Kyogre is a Water-type Legendary Pokémon and the version mascot of Pokémon Sapphire and, in its Primal form, of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Kyogre is categorized within the Pokédex at #382 as the "Sea Basin Pokémon". It is the embodiment of the sea, and its originally unique ability Drizzle is able to summon rain on the battlefield.

Hydro Pump is Water-type move at 120 base power up until Generation V, where it got nerfed to 110 base power starting in Generation VI. Like any other Water-type Pokémon, Kyogre can learn Hydro Pump by leveling up at either Level 90 starting on HeartGold and SoulSilver to X/Y or 75 on Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]

Kyogre flying above Battlefield in Brawl.

Kyogre made its Smash debut in Brawl. When summoned from a Poké Ball, Kyogre starts floating in the air and shooting water from its mouth with Hydro Pump, the same move used by Blastoise in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. While Kyogre's body does damage on contact, the water it shoots just pushes back its targets (like Mario's F.L.U.D.D. and Squirtle's Water Gun) and is useful for stopping recoveries. However, this attack cannot push any player that shielding or hanging on a ledge. Different from F.L.U.D.D. or Water Gun, it's extremely strong and can easily push a character past the blast lines for a KO. Like all other legendaries (except Latias & Latios), Kyogre appears rarely.
