Hyper has also released a response where he added context to what Max and Mondongod had stated. Hyper explained that he only told Mondongod that Yunna was talking to many girls in an uncomfortable way; Hyper specifically clarified that his focus was on Yunna being a horrible person, not that he was a groomer. However following the Stone Ocean 7 controversy Mondongod messaged Hyper asking whether Max was underaged, in which Hyper denied. Mondongod then preceded to explain how he wanted to ban Max for spreading rumors, even after Hyper tried explaining that that he was the one who said the (albeit misconstrued) rumors. Hyper told Max what Mondongod was going to do, leading Mondongod to ban Hyper instead on the count of "lack of evidence" for his "rumor."<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230531225429/https://twitter.com/WhatIsAHitbox/status/1663743039527895040|title=Hyper's response}}</ref> | Hyper has also released a response where he added context to what Max and Mondongod had stated. Controversy[edit]
Following Stone Ocean 7, many people began criticizing Mondongod for his choices when running the tournament. Specifically, players complained how the $1,165 prize pool was only distributed to the top 4 players despite the fact that Stone Ocean 7 was, at that point, the largest tournament in Venezuela.[2] Instead of addressing these complaints, however, Mondongod began blocking users who criticized him on Twitter.
One of the people Mondongod blocked was a user under the tag Max, and following her block she released a Twitter thread accusing Mondongod for mishandling allegations regarding her and another player, Yunna. Max stated that Yunna had sent nude pictures of her to multiple players in the scene, including Mondongod himself, and that although he was only banned for six months, Max alleged that Mondongod continued to protect Yunna from having a full ban. In addition, Max accused Mondongod for trying to ban her over rumors on how Max was telling people that she was underage when Yuuna began talking to her; not only did Max deny the rumors, but she also alleged that Mondongod later retracted the statement and blamed someone else for spreading the rumor. Ultimately, Max accused Mondongod for knowing what had happened between her and Yunna, but did little to alleviate the situation as Mondongod was friends with Yunna.[3]
In response to the accusations, Mondongod released his own statement on Twitter. He denied trying to defend Yunna, and instead claimed that he had worked with Venezuela's backroom to extend Yuuna's ban to indefinite. He also admitted to considering a ban for her but denied every seriously pursuing one due to a lack of evidence. Finally, he named the "someone else" Max mentioned as a player under the tag Hyper, and noted how he was no longer willing to work with Hyper due to the accusation.[4]
Hyper told Max what Mondongod was going to do, leading Mondongod to ban Hyper instead on the count of "lack of evidence" for his "rumor."[5]
Ultimately, Mondongod was banned from Venezuelan tournaments for three months, with the backroom citing Mondongod's incompetence in handling the controversy as well as his attempted unjustified bans.[6]
Trivia[edit]
- Modnongod was also a League of Legends and Magic: The Gathering professional player.
