Overview
Peach leaps up into the air, holding her Parasol above her. At the apex of her jump, she will open the parasol and float down gently. The parasol does damage at all times of the animation, and opponents that touch the top of the parasol are sent upward. It also possesses a large and disjointed hitbox above Peach that makes the move difficult to intercept from above. Once in the air floating, control is similar to using the Parasol item. Daisy Parasol functions identically, and the parasol matches Daisy’s color.

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

# Peach Parasol: Default.
# Parasol High Jump: Peach jumps around 50% higher in to the air, but does not pull out her parasol, and instead falls helplessly. The move has slightly more startup and landing lag, as well as lacking a hitbox, however it mitigates Peach's weakness of having a poor vertical recovery.
# Light Parasol: Deals low damage. The initial jump lacks vertical recovery, and has no hitbox, but opening the parasol lifts Peach higher, which can be easier for recovering, and at this point, the parasol deals 3% damage on contact with opponents (although with reduced knockback). Closing and reopening the parasol at this point lifts her higher again, and it can be performed at most seven times in a row while airborne. The parasol does not slow her fall quite as much, and if the parasol is open for slightly more than a second, then she will become completely helpless. The move also has slightly less landing lag.

The move is most likely based on a scene from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars where, in order to leave her room without alerting the castle guards, Peach parachutes from her second-story room using a parasol. This parasol can later be used as a weapon. It could also be inspired by the mariowiki minigame from Mario Party 3; similar gameplay mechanics are used, including the ability to freely close and reopen the parasol.

Peach Parasol (ピーチパラソル, Peach Parasol) is Peach's up special move, and Daisy Parasol (デイジーパラソル, Daisy Parasol) is Daisy's functionally identical up special move.

Overview[edit]

Peach leaps up into the air, holding her Parasol above her. At the apex of her jump, she will open the parasol and float down gently. The parasol does damage at all times of the animation, and opponents that touch the top of the parasol are sent upward. It also possesses a large and disjointed hitbox above Peach that makes the move difficult to intercept from above. Once in the air floating, control is similar to using the Parasol item. Daisy Parasol functions identically, and the parasol matches Daisy’s color.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

Peach using her Parasol in Melee.

While floating, it is possible to move left or right. If down is pressed, Peach will close her umbrella, fall at normal speed, and become helpless. Pressing up again will open her umbrella and allow her to float again, although altitude cannot be regained. However, after a certain amount of time with the umbrella open without landing on the stage, Peach will enter a permanent helpless state that cannot be escaped.[1]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

The move returns in Super Smash Bros. Brawl; however, the parasol's appearance is retained from Yoshi's Island DS. It also allows greater vertical and horizontal recovery in Brawl than it did in Melee. Peach can still grab ledges when facing away from them, but only if her parasol is closed.

Glitch[edit]

In Brawl, a glitch known as the parasol glitch can be performed using the Peach Parasol. It causes Peach to drift indefinitely against a wall using her Parasol.

In Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]

This move also returns in Super Smash Bros. 4, being mostly the same as in Brawl. However, it is now a magic attack and Peach jumps faster and higher. Peach will now automatically close her parasol after floating for 8 seconds, and can no longer open it again once she does. Finally, the last hit of the initial jump attack has less knockback.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the parasol is partially reverted to its Melee iteration in that after it is opened completely, it deals little knockback and instead can be used to rack up damage.

Customization[edit]

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

1. Peach Parasol 2. Parasol High Jump 3. Light Parasol
Peach Parasol
Parasol High Jump
Light Parasol
"Jump high into the air and open your parasol. Keep it open to slowly float down." "Jump into the air quickly, but you can't open your parasol." "The jump isn't very high, but opening the parasol lifts you a little bit higher."
 1. Peach Parasol: Default.
 2. Parasol High Jump: Peach jumps around 50% higher in to the air, but does not pull out her parasol, and instead falls helplessly. The move has slightly more startup and landing lag, as well as lacking a hitbox, however it mitigates Peach's weakness of having a poor vertical recovery.
 3. Light Parasol: Deals low damage.

Origin[edit]

Peach's Parasol in Super Paper Mario.

The move is most likely based on a scene from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars where, in order to leave her room without alerting the castle guards, Peach parachutes from her second-story room using a parasol. This parasol can later be used as a weapon. It could also be inspired by the Parasol Plummet minigame from Mario Party 3; similar gameplay mechanics are used, including the ability to freely close and reopen the parasol.

Peach has otherwise been pictured with a parasol since Super Mario Sunshine, released after Melee, where she used her parasol as a parachute in the ending cutscene. She also used a parasol in Yoshi's Island DS as a baby, Super Princess Peach (where it was a character named Perry), and Super Paper Mario. Peach's parasol as of Brawl is an exact replica of its appearance in Yoshi's Island DS, with its heart-shaped handle.[2]

Although Daisy has never been seen using a unique parasol like Peach's outside of Smash Bros., she has a unique color scheme for the Peach Parasol glider (with the color being identical to that of the parasol she uses in Ultimate) in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. She is also playable in Mario Party 3, and therefore can be selected to participate in Parasol Plummet alongside any other character.
