However the [[COVID-19 pandemic]] postponed the tournament, and it was pushed back to 2022, where it became a Gold-tier stop on the [[Smash World Tour 2022]]. There were four Salty Suite matches: {{Sm|Zamu}} vs. {{Sm|bobby big ballz}}, {{Sm|Rishi}} vs. {{Sm|Junebug}} 3v3 mid-tier [[ironman]], {{Sm|Zain}} vs. {{Sm|moky}} reverse mains, and {{Sm|Hungrybox}} vs. {{Sm|iBDW}}. All sets are first to 5 (except for the 3v3), and players could not pick the last stage they have won on during a set.
 
Hungrybox brought a number of props to use for his match: a carton of mango juice (which Hungrybox and then iBDW consumed), mangoes, a can of salt (which Hungrybox spread onto the stage floor), candy (which Hungrybox consumed), and a party popper (which Hungrybox pulled out mid-game then fired following the last game). iBDW slammed a folding chair into the stage following his victory. Hungrybox did the same, except it slid off the stage and near the crowd, leading to {{Sm|GimR}} subsequently confiscating the chair.

Apex 2022 was a Super Smash Bros. tournament that features every game in the series. It is the 8th tournament in the Apex series and the first tournament in the series since Apex 2016 six years earlier.

Although previous Apex tournament organizers have discussed about a new iteration of Apex, nothing came out of it until March 2020, where it was announced that Apex would return on November 20th-22nd, be run by VGBootCamp, and be a Gold-tier stop on the Smash World Tour 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the tournament, and it was pushed back to 2022, where it became a Gold-tier stop and final main event on the Smash World Tour 2022. Additional events included the return of the Salty Suite, as well as a Multiversus event.

Salty SuiteEdit

There were four Salty Suite matches: Zamu vs. bobby big ballz, Rishi vs. Junebug 3v3 mid-tier ironman, Zain vs. moky reverse mains, and Hungrybox vs. iBDW. All sets are first to 5 (except for the 3v3), and players could not pick the last stage they have won on during a set.

Hungrybox brought a number of props to use for his match: a carton of mango juice (which Hungrybox and then iBDW consumed), mangoes, a can of salt (which Hungrybox spread onto the stage floor), candy (which Hungrybox consumed), and a party popper (which Hungrybox pulled out mid-game then fired following the last game). iBDW slammed a folding chair into the stage following his victory. Hungrybox did the same, except it slid off the stage and near the crowd, leading to GimR subsequently confiscating the chair.

TriviaEdit

  • This tournament marks the first time Axe has defeated Zain in the post-quarantine era of Melee singles, doing so with a 3-0.
  • This is the first Brawl tournament 686M has lost since Super Smash Con 2019, which was three years prior.
  • WarriorKnight's final placement of 49th in Melee singles marks the best placement of a Bowser player at a post-Slippi Melee major.
  • aMSa's victory in Melee singles with Yoshi (which followed his win at The Big House 10 over a month prior) gave him the distinction of being the only Melee mid-tier player to win a major tournament more than once.
  • This tournament marks Miya's first time competing overseas, ultimately culminating in his victory in Ultimate singles.
  • Both Melee and Ultimate singles were won by a player from Japan (aMSa and Miya, respectively).
  • Apex 2022 ended the longest gap between two major Smash Bros. tournaments, 7 years and 9 months after Apex 2015.
