Trivia[edit]

Masked Man Spirit (pre-2.0.0).pngEdited Masked Man battle sprite from Mother 3
Magnify-clip.pngMagnify-clip.png
The Masked Man spirit's
sprite before and after the
version 2.0.0 update, respectively.
  • EarthBound, Pikmin, and R.O.B. are the only series represented by a fighter to use real life photographs for their spirits.
  • EarthBound, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Ice Climber, and Pac-Man are the only series represented by a fighter to use in-game sprite art for some or all of their spirits.
  • Despite having his own paper clay model, Master Belch uses his sprite instead for his spirit artwork.
    • Similarly, Starman and Ramblin' Evil Mushroom use their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate artwork rather than their paper clay models for their spirit artwork.
  • Prior to version 2.0.0, the sprite for the Masked Man spirit contained a few differences from his sprite in Mother 3: a stray light gray pixel on the helmet and two dark blue pixels on its black outline. In the extracted image, without its alpha channel applied, part of a smaller Masked Man sprite can be seen to the left. This was discovered to be Masked Man fan art in the style of the Mother 4 fan game (later rebranded as Oddity), which includes the same edited Mother 3 sprite as a reference image.[1] Version 2.0.0, released over a month after the discovery, updated the spirit, including its appearance in the Inventory menu, to use the actual Mother 3 sprite,[2] with other EarthBound spirits featuring pixel art receiving similar updates.[3]
  • The Absolutely Safe Capsule spirit has the highest defense stat of any spirit with 4,886 at level 1 and 10,000 at level 99. It also has the lowest attack stat at 0, and is the only primary spirit that can not increase its attack stat.
    • The Absolutely Safe Capsule is also the only summoned spirit that requires another summoned spirit to obtain.
