Smash Summit 8 was a national Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational tournament. It was the eighth installment of the Smash Summit series for Melee, and was held on June 13th-16th, 2019. Unlike previous Smash Summits, it was held at Beyond the Summit's studio facility rather than at the Summit Gaming House, and was closed to the general public.
Players invited/qualified[edit]
The following 8 players were invited by Beyond The Summit:
Three wild card slots at Get On My Level 2019, Smash 'N' Splash 5, and The Kid, the Goat, and the Mang0 were given to the top non-invited finisher of each tournament:
- Wizzrobe (who finished 4th at Get On My Level 2019)
- Drephen (who finished 9th at Smash 'N' Splash 5 and beat KJH and Shroomed in a round robin tiebreaker, as the highest placed non-invited finisher SFAT, who finished 7th, was unable to attend)
- moky (who finished 2nd at The Kid, the Goat, and the Mang0)
Players voted in[edit]
The voting system received some minor changes. First, if a person votes for a player who gets eliminated, they will receive half of their votes back, and the votes can be used for other players until the voting ends. Also, the final two players who get eliminated have the choice of either taking a portion of the raised funds that they would have gotten, or be flown out to the tournament, where they can participate in activities and practice.
Players eliminated[edit]
These players were eliminated in voting:
- Greasy, Flipsy, ChuDat, Stango (May 22nd)
- Reesch, Fiction, Jakenshaken (May 23rd)
- Bimbo, Fable (May 24th)
- Kevin Maples, Luigi Ka-Master (May 26th)
- Spark, Westballz (May 27th)
- Lucky, Cool Lime (May 28th)
These players were eliminated in the nomination phase:
