Koffing (ドガース, Dogars) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.
Origin[edit]
Koffing is a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #109 as the "Poison Gas Pokémon". It is essentially a balloon filled with poisonous gases which it uses in battle, and is also prone to exploding. It evolves into Weezing at level 35, which has a Poison/Fairy-type regional form endemic to Galar. It is somewhat notable for being James's partner Pokémon in the early episodes of Pokémon the Series, as well as being used in the games by several members of Team Rocket.
Smog is a Poison-type move with 30 base power (20 prior to Generation VI), 70% accuracy, and a 40% chance of poisoning the target. Koffing learns the move at low levels.
Poison Gas is a Poison-type move with 90% accuracy (55% before Generation V, 80% from then until Generation VI) that poisons all adjacent opponents it hits (only a single target prior to Generation V). Koffing knows the move from the start since Generation II.
Smokescreen is a Normal-type move with 100% accuracy that lowers the target's accuracy by one stage. Koffing can learn the move by leveling up.
In Super Smash Bros.[edit]
As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]
Koffing attacks with Smog, releasing gas from the pores on its body. Any character but the summoner who touches the gas will take damage, and, if very close to Koffing, they will be trapped until it disappears. Its Japanese voice clip is from the Pokémon episode Island of the Giant Pokémon while its English voice clip is from the Pokémon episode The Ghost of Maiden's Peak.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
Koffing no longer appears as a Poké Ball, being replaced in function by its evolved form Weezing. However, Koffing is mentioned in the description of Weezing's trophy.
In Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]
In Smash Run[edit]
Koffing appears as an enemy. It floats in the air; while motionless most of the time, it can occasionally float over to the player. Koffing attacks by using Poison Gas, releasing poisonous clouds which reduce the player's stats on contact. It releases a small amount of Poison Gas every few seconds while idle, and inflates itself before releasing a large cloud of Poison Gas when approached. Koffing flies away if left alone long enough.
In Smash Tour[edit]
Koffing appears as a random event in Smash Tour. It uses Smokescreen, hiding the board with a thick cloud of purple smoke for one turn.
Trophy[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Koffing's trophy is random, but in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it has to be acquired by completing the full solo All-Star Mode with Jigglypuff within six minutes.

Trivia[edit]
- Koffing is one of two Poké Ball Pokémon to be replaced by a member of their evolution-line in later installments, instead of by another Pokémon that uses the same move, with the other being Starmie.
- Koffing is the only Poké Ball Pokémon to have become an enemy, though it does not appear as both in the same game.
- When in Smash Tour, the game states "A wild Koffing appeared!", a homage to the wild Pokémon encounter message shown in the Pokémon games.
