So far, seven fourth generation Pokémon are set to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  Six of the creatures appear as Poké Ball Pokémon: Piplup, one of the three starters a trainer can choose, uses Surf as one of its moves, while Munchlax runs around the stage and eats any items it picks up.  Manaphy uses Heart Swap to force players to switch characters with each others, whereas Regigigas performs Crush Claw.  Cherrim and Shaymin were claimed to have been seen by players at Whobby 2008.

In terms of playable characters, the fourth generation appears to also receive some representation.  An icon of Lucario has recently been spotted in an official Brawl trailer on the Japanese Wii website, indicating that it's playable.  While not explicitly confirmed by Nintendo or the Smash Bros. DOJO!! to be in the game, it is extremely likely that Lucario is, in fact, a playable character.
