| * 10-Man Melee, in which the player must defeat 10 Wire Frames without falling.
| |
| * 100-Man Melee, in which the player must defeat 100 Wire Frames without falling.
| |
| * 3-Minute Melee, in which the player must defeat as many Wire Frames as possible without falling, during this period of time.
| |
| * 15-Minute Melee, in which the player must defeat as many Wire Frames as possible without falling, during this period of time.
| |
| * Endless Melee, in which the player must defeat as many Wire Frames as possible before falling.
| |
| * Cruel Melee, in which the player must defeat as many Wire Frames, with high handicaps and increased aggressiveness, as possible. This mode is famous for its involvement in the [[Sonic and Tails]] rumor spread by Electronic Gaming Monthly: that after defeating 20 Wire Frames in a single round, Sonic and Tails will challenge the player and become available characters. This rumor has proven false both in premise and in practice - not only would it be highly unlikely that SEGA (which, at Melee's release, was not yet a third party company) would sell its characters for use in a Nintendo game, but Cruel Melee strategies proved very quickly that Sonic and Tails did not appear after obtaining 20 kills.
