Look at you, why did you remove that banner rumor in the rumors page? It's widely the most discussed. Why did you remove it? I wish I can edit it back but the admins restricted editing for a time now. Michele 16:27, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Hi, I'm not sure if I missed anything or otherwise misunderstand, but where does it say that "we're not accepting numbers until release" per what you said here? From my understanding text information is allowed from datamines, and surely that would count at "text information", no? <font face="Marker Felt"><span style="color:goldenrod;">Rtzxy</span> <span style="color:limegreen;">Reflect!</span></font> 20:30, 5 December 2018 (EST)

:There's a banner prominently displayed on literally all of the Ultimate character pages. The numbers I removed from the Walk page fall into this category as well. ::I'd argue that information derived from the datamines would not be considered "pre-release gameplay footage", as the notice puts it, so the notice would not apply since, technically, the info is coming from a released (albeit illegal) final copy of the game. <font face="Marker Felt"><span style="color:goldenrod;">Rtzxy</span> <span style="color:limegreen;">Reflect!</span></font> 21:01, 5 December 2018 (EST)
:::I thought about the text information qualifier too, but ultimately decided that data numbers would still count as the 'specific data' that we're trying to keep out currently. Again, day one patches are going to be a thing, and with lots of other kurogane data put out, it probably should be taken down as well. However, with less than a day to go until release, it's probably not worth it at this point. Your first reversion of this was justified, as the edit was just awkward, but the underlying point was fine. The second one (which I linked) was not fine because a genuine effort was put forth to correct the issue you called them out on, it just came out awkward still. This is not edit warring, they were attempting to fix their mistake and you jumped their ass for it. Instead of reverting with a snarky comment, instead, you should have helped them rewrite the point being made in encyclopediac form. Help don't hinder. <span style="font-family:Algerian;font-size:10pt;background:#000;border:outset #083 2px;padding:1px 3px"><span style="color:#083">Serpent</span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<span style="color:#ed0">King</span></span> 17:54, 12 January 2019 (EST)
:You were literally just called out for this behavior last night and you're doing it again. You and Aidan are wrong, semicolons are used to separate items in a list where the items themselves contain commas, as the IP clearly stated in his edit summary (evidence).
:Also, if you're going to be snarky about policy, you should probably also reread SW:ADMIN, where a section very clearly states administrators do not have additional say in content disputes, contrary to your edit summary. &ndash; <span style="color:#000000">Emmett</span> 05:53, 13 January 2019 (EST)
Block
Hello, you have been issued a short block following a discussion among the admins.
You are in serious need of an attitude adjustment. It's hard to pick out individual contributions to even cite to you, because there are so many; you are consistently rude in your edit summaries, either don't understand or refuse to acknowledge the fact that policies like 1RV apply to you as well, and have ignored repeated warnings from admins about your behaviour, both here and on Discord. Despite these repeated warnings, you have not displayed any apparent growth or changed the way you edit and interact with other users, and it has reached a point where your toxic behaviour far eclipses the positive editing you do. Other users should not have to specifically avoid interacting with you because of your demeanour, but that's how things are, and driving away any editor, especially new ones, is a legitimate harm to the project. During your block, please seriously reflect on what you're being told and how you edit the wiki, and when your block expires, hopefully your attitude will have changed for the better. &ndash; <span style="color:#000000">Emmett</span> 08:20, 13 January 2019 (EST)
Revelations, confessions and apologies
Well, it's finally happened. After almost 2 years of membership on SmashWiki, I've allowed myself to go too far and get blocked. For some of you, it surely comes as no surprise, while for a select few others, you're probably celebrating my fall. I'm not sure who of you might be, but I'm certain that there's a couple of you. Now, I was tempted to just make this post while logged out and use my signature template to sign this as I have done once before, but I figured it best not to do something that might get me accused of sockpuppetry, especially when I am still able to post to my talk page as I am now. So let me go over the events that led up to this downfall, and why I may never be seen here again, despite the block being only a week.
In the beginning, I came onto here after discovering a couple of inconsistencies on Damage Meter. I was a little annoyed when my definitely true information was reverted, but after a few civilised posts on the talk page (a discussion during which I made my account), the information was allowed to stay. A few days later my actions got the attention of Serpent King, and for all the right reasons. Before I was even autoconfirmed, I caught and shut down a few vandals, allowing me to acquire rollback, and possibly being the fastest user to ever do so in SmashWiki's history. Encouraged by Serpent King, I joined the Discord server, allowing me to increase efficiency with my work here, stopping vandals left and right, and overall becoming a respected and trusted user of the site. I even landed the Chat Operator role in the Discord, a sign that I definitely had trust within the community. Or so I thought...
Now at this point, if you haven't been a part of my final days here, you might be thinking to yourself, "Black, it sounds like you had such a high pedigree within this community. How could you possibly have failed so badly?" The answer to that question is lots of little things adding up into one big thing. You see, I was spurred on to do great things here. I wanted so much to do more for this community than I possibly could have with rollback. I wanted to help people. So I tried for adminship. With a ton of enthusiasm, but I also took great care in laying it out too. Unfortunately, I sold myself short, declaring myself to have a weak ability in conflict resolution than I actually did. The result was a well-attended to RfA that ultimately had zero support. And while I appeared to take it on the chin at first, for a long time I struggled to understand why it failed so badly. I so strongly believed I had the trust and respect of the community that I would at least get one or two supports, even if the RfA did fall through. The only 'support' I received was from a one-shot IP that could easily have been a pity-vote, or at least just somebody who didn't properly understand what was going on. I felt betrayed at all this.
From there, things only got even worse. I had allowed my frustration to spill over towards a user on the Discord server (|3rian, but I forget who he is on here, but he doesn't edit anymore so it doesn't matter), who to be fair, had been getting a little bit antagonistic towards other users on there, including me. But I greatly overstepped my place as a CO, and a little over a month after the RfA, I was stripped of my rank. Adding insult to injury, this was just days before I received my fursuit. This is supposed to be the biggest moment of a furry's life, and as awesome as it was at the time, it was overshadowed by the fact that I had been demoted, forever sullying one of my happiest memories with a tragic event tacked on just behind it. A highly subjective grievance, I know, but it was still a big moment, and it's not a thing I would ever want to think about ever again as I look at my fursuit. Admittedly, that's not such a problem now, but the pain is still there.
Things went even worse still when I entered into a feud with Ac2k, a user who had been away from the wiki for quite some time, and who started haranguing me over various tiny things about what I do on the wiki, that, even with my recent behaviour on the wiki, no admin would have seen cause for action against. It eventually got so bad that I took my first hiatus from the wiki, which was supposed to be a full month, but ended up being just a few days after Ultimate got teased. In hindsight it should have been longer, but I still was able to take on board a few lessons, which I was able to put into practice after Ac2k continued to niggle me over the tiny things, only this time I was able to steel myself against it. His toxic behaviour eventually earned him a month-long ban, although he hasn't been seen on the wiki since. "Thank fuck for that," said I. "Now I can focus on bettering myself and proving to the wiki that I am admin material." But that was not to be.
Later that same year, Aidanzapunk tried for adminship. At the time, after a lot of interactions with other users I was wondering if I should take it on again, believing I had dealt with the issues from my previous RfA. So I tried again, which, given Aidan's was open at the time, you might have said out of desperation. I was accused of this desperation by several users, which angered me a great deal. My mindset was (and arguably still is), "What does it matter if someone APPEARS to just be in it for the status? If one has still gone to the effort of making a clear demonstration that they are suitable for the position, is that not enough?" However, the RfA collapsed in less than 24 hours after overwhelming opposition came in surrounding this belief that I was in it for the status, but also because of my aforementioned feud with Ac2k. I knew that would come back to haunt me, and yet I followed a suggestion from SK to not mention that up front, although that might have been due to miscommunication. Nevertheless, this further fueled my growing sense of wounded betrayal of the wiki, which clung to my subconscious like a tumour. SK also had something to say on the RfA, but it wasn't actually posted because it was shut down so fast. Since you can't see what he wrote on the RfA, here it is now. This also led to me taking another hiatus from the wiki, the timing of which also coincided with my first ever furry convention, which much like the fursuit before, tarnished what should have been a fantastic famous-first memory with a bad thing happening at a similar time. To my dismay, I also discovered Aidan's promotion upon my return, whose RfA I admit I only supported because I thought I would have had the favour returned, because Aidan and I had some positive chemistry on-wiki at the time. Yes indeed, I was, and perhaps still am, a selfish prick. (I am still happy for him though and I still respect him, make no mistake.)
From that point forward, my work on the wiki had degenerated to frequent reverts of edits deemed unconstructive, mainly by IPs and new users, with only a few scattered independent edits in between, as well as the occasional vandal. The edit summaries I used for most of the good faith edits, and sometimes talk page posts, were rather acidic, and getting progressively worse. This eventually led to a block warning, which was a massive punch to the gut, a kick to the balls, and a crowbar to the head. After extensively discussing the situation with SK, and confessing everything I have written above to him, I at least attempted to shape up to avoid this block. I was at least successful in improving my attitude when it came to posting on talk pages, remaining professional and courteous for every single TP post since. Unfortunately, I had also gotten lazy in proceeding to make such posts, and had not been subscribing to the same standards with my edit summaries, which only continued to worsen, until finally we're brought up to now, receiving the ban hammer, my ultimate failure on this wiki.
----
So I hear you ask: Where does this leave me? Having gone over my failings, the damage I've done to both myself and this wiki, I think the answer is clear: I am spiteful. Having had a terrible school life, and experienced social rejection for 11 years, it's left me with huge gaps in my abilities that have never truly been filled, even after 8 years and 6 different therapists. The main reason I became a furry was because it would allow me to find a group people I could finally, truly belong to for the first time in my life. And I did. It has allowed me to grow more as a person than I was ever able to inside of school. But my issues still exist, and while they are definitely much smaller than they used to be, they are there. My alter ego, Black Vulpine, is more than just a simple character. He represents who I used to be, and who I wanted to be: a leader, level-headed, strong, brave, a straight-thinker, and silver-tongued. He's everything I'm not. Even to this day, I still fear rejection. Every day, I'm faced with a fear that I will be banned from the group, and go back to having nothing. I have this fear even though it is completely unrealistic due to the simple fact that I am in completely good standing with the group.
Even if I've not been the best here, I've always wanted the best for this wiki, just like so many others, and you who is reading this. Of course, I apologise for the harm I have caused. I still want to become an admin here, but I know that is forever beyond my reach now. It doesn't matter if we say that "Users that have been blocked in the past... are no less eligible for adminship," because in my mind, that's all that anyone in this community will see. How many admins on ANY wiki, ANYWHERE, do you know, who has a block history? I was for a time one of the most stellar editors on this site, but I fell from grace, then crashed and burned. Nobody wants an admin who went through that. Serpent King, as well as the other staff, begs to differ, but that's cold comfort for me, even if I respect their decisions on what has been done here.
I should also point out that I got angry and left the Discord server after people started snarking at how I overreacted to small things and acting like a robot. After the block, it didn't take long for it to click that this is not at all different to what I was putting people through with my edit summaries. As well as my subconscious spitefulness, I was also allowing anger from my life at my home to spill over into here. Taking a break from the Discord server was a good start, but given that I was being dragged away on an interstate trip that I never wanted to go to, I probably should have extended that break to the wiki itself as well. Maybe this block would never have happened then.
Now perhaps after reading all this, you think that I am just an innocent boy who was dealt a bad hand? That's probably true. Or perhaps you think I am a stupid prick who can't hack the responsibilities of a wiki. That is also probably true. The point of all this is, despite everything that's happened, and how I might have made it sound here, I don't blame anyone for what's happened. Yes, I have difficulty letting go of the bad things that have happened, but I wrote all this in the hopes that it will help me let go once and for all. Ultimately, it is all my fault. Even my feuds with Brian and Ac2k - I can (theoretically) call them assholes all I want, but there's no denying the fact I allowed them to get to me, and cause me to say and do things that I ultimately regretted and come back to bite me. In the end, it's all me. But I have been resistant to accepting this. I've been lying to myself and I've been lying to you all. As a result, I fear it's been doing damage to myself as well as the wiki community. And so, I've come to the conclusion that it's finally time for me to go. I'm not going to say I'm going away from this place forever - after all, Smash is still a fantastic game for me, and still a passion of mine. Also, I personally dislike the phrase 'leaving forever', because who knows what the future could hold. Maybe one day, near or distant future, I will find what I need, and on that day, I will most certainly be back. But until then, I deeply apologise for all the harm I have caused, and I wish you all well. :I'd certainly say you had a lot to get off your chest. I totally understand that, the level of stress and uncertainty shouldn't have to linger in anyone's train of thought. I only worry you let it build up too much, and this is the result. Now, I am most certainly not saying this was wrong of you to do-the clarification you felt you needed to provide was a breath of fresh air. However, I will say that, because all these events may have happened they way they did, and how you handled them throughout, may have occurred as such simply because you may not have been asking enough questions to the community. And hey, I get it if you haven't-to ask questions about the unknown to an unknown crowd? It's a very, very scary concept! But every once in a while, we all have to throw caution to the wind. The result won't always be what we hoped for or wanted, but the experience is invaluable; good or bad. In the end, this is a community I would believe is worth trusting. We've laid out our principles, our ideas, and other concepts to bring forth a general consensus others can look highly upon. We're here because that's just how much we care about it. So, in the case you do feel like you want to come back, regardless of reason, don't be afraid to start off with a question. You're in search of answers to bring clarity to your journey, and at least from a simpler perspective from a group such as this one, you'll never get a shortage of them here. <font face="Papyrus"><span style="color: darkblue;">15DollarsWentSouth</span></font> 03:04, 21 January 2019 (EST)

My edit of Chrom

After reverting my edit about Chrom, you later added and I quote: " Putting that there just seems way out of place. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Putting notes in brackets in the middle of sentences must be done with EXTREME care." Care to elaborate on this statement? You have never said this to me before and I have made sure. I'm sure this wasn't your intention but it does seem rather rude. I would be very grateful for a reply. Thank You. Ice Cream Melee (talk) 13:38, 3 October 2018 (EDT)

It doesn't mean it was said to you; he's probably said it before, in other contexts. That said, in regards to your edit, there was a segment put in parentheses that, grammatically, did not fit, which is why he undid the edit. Aidan, the Spooky Rurouni 14:16, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
It's not why he did undid the edit, it's what he said in the summary. That's what I'm annoyed about. Ice Cream Melee (talk) 15:05, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
Exactly what Aidan said; my words were said in general context and not targeting you specifically. I apologise if you thought otherwise. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 19:24, 3 October 2018 (EDT)

Why do you believe this line qualifies as complex trivia? "First playable Metroid" doesn't seem to be overly complicated to me. – Emmett 22:14, 3 October 2018 (EDT)

Because people not well versed in the Metroid series (myself included) would have to do some pretty intense digging to learn about why Dark Samus is what she is. Trivia needs to be quick and easy to understand, and while stuck on the fence about this, I do still feel moreso that it is not. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. I've literally never played a Metroid game in my life, but a note saying "Dark Samus marks the first time the Metroid series has a playable Metroid" seems to be pretty clear as to what it is. You don't really need to know DS' background to understand via that note that she is a Metroid, and is the first playable one. – Emmett 22:20, 3 October 2018 (EDT)

Your recent behavior

Hey, so I've been noticing a few alarming issues regarding how you deal with other users. Looking through your contributions, I am noticing mostly reversions and talk page posts. While there's nothing inherently wrong with that, I want to point you to the part I see fault in: the edit summaries and the language you use on the talk pages. You are far, far too blunt, to the point where you become intimidating to new users, possibly even scaring them away. This is damaging to our project and is in no way in our best interest.

Let's look at some examples

  1. Here you reverted C0liosi's signature replacement for no real reason, and directly afterwards he took out his whole comment and never showed up again. This might seem minor, but we always want new contributors, so kill them with kindness. When you are trying to enforce a rule, consider what damage could possibly be done if you don't act. If there's minimal or none, then don't.
  2. Here your edit summary is the issue. He just got done saying that he's a new user and he didn't fully understand how things work, but you responded with a snarky answer to his rhetorical question instead of politely explaining that the game doesn't change until release.
  3. You're still doing this. I pointed this out to you back when I (would have) opposed your RfA. Quit using language best left for the staff..."Hold it right there" is not appropriate language for user to user conversation...it's not even something I would want admins to ever say, really. Watch your phrasing.
  4. There are several edit summaries where you were unnecessarily sarcastic or brash. Again watch your phrasing.
  5. This is entirely unacceptable. A few problems with it:
    1. Break in QDV (your comment in the beginning does not dismiss the violation)
    2. Qualifies as block talk
    3. The whole thing reads as if you are trying to validate or reenforce the block as an admin would
    4. Once again use of this whole "alright listen up" crap
    5. And finally (and mainly), the comment can only piss the user off even further. You called his grammar terrible without even giving any suggestions for improvement, and then went on with how this act which had nothing to do with you somehow upset you.

There are also several recent issues that have occured on discord with you at the center, but since every one of those have been addressed, I don't feel a need to repeat myself.

My ending statement is this: you need to improve the way you interact with other users, especially new ones. Before saving the edit, ask yourself: is what I've written polite and professional instead of rude? Is what I've written constructive instead of inflammatory? Are other users likely to respond well to being spoken to in this way? If the message is intended to be sharp, am I the right person to be writing it? Making sure that these questions are all answered appropriately will help you to improve your edits and communication on the wiki to be more constructive. There have already been several conversations with you regarding your behavior, so I will warn you that lack of improvement in this area will result in a short block. Thanks for your time reading this wall of text, and have a nice day. Serpent SKSig.png King 19:17, 4 October 2018 (EDT)

I should probably point out that this has been discussed at length with SK, and thus has been fully acknowledged. I say this just in case people think I ignored this. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 00:17, 6 October 2018 (EDT)

The comment on Talk:Vergeben Leaks

I honestly thought that what the IP post could've been considered spam, but I guess not. On a separate note, I believe that the IPs' posts don't contribute to the discussion and seem more like a personal attack, however at the same time it doesn't seem like it fits the rules of SW:NPA, so should I deal with it or should I just leave it be? SugarCookie420 (talk) 19:28, 22 October 2018 (EDT)

Comments on talk pages should be left alone, even if they are personal attacks. We're not MarioWiki, we don't remove vandal comments except under very special circumstances. Anyway, those comments, acidic as they are, technically don't break any rules, since they're not targeting anyone on the wiki in particular. Don't quote me on that last remark though - let the admins be the judge of that. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 19:30, 22 October 2018 (EDT)

Removal of that rumor

Look at you, why did you remove that banner rumor in the rumors page? It's widely the most discussed. Why did you remove it? I wish I can edit it back but the admins restricted editing for a time now. Michele 16:27, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Not BV, but that page has been protected because of counter-productive edit-warring. If you think it should be in the article again, talk about it on its talk page. It's widely discussed? Because all I saw within those links was a whole lot of random garbage that only vaguely resembles a genuine leak discussion. The rest of it just looks like trolling. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 17:42, 24 October 2018 (EDT)
Many YouTubers, some who rarely discuss leaks, have talked about this, and people involved in the Smash community such as ZeRo and Alpharad have talked about it on Twitter, although most of this blew up a few hours ago. SugarCookie420 (talk) 18:51, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Reversion of Dialga

Hi hi! I don't mean to intrude or anything, but there's been an ongoing discussion of switching to outside official art rather than in-game screenshots or renders at Forum:General proposals#Assist Trophy infobox art. This way, they're consistent across each other and with the character pages. All the Assist Trophies have already been swapped out, so the next step we were looking for was Pokémon; a few have already been swapped. That's why Dialga's art was switched out earlier. Would you prefer a bit more of a consensus before it goes any further? DryKirby64 (talk) 02:40, 28 October 2018 (EDT)

While there's no opposition to this as far as I can see, there also isn't much support. I would like to see a bit more support for that as it is. There's certainly no grounds to declare a consensus at this time, whether some pics have been swapped already or not. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Pokémon Art

The reson why I edited the Fighter Pokémon art descriptions is because the art being used is from Red and Blue. I double checked before editing it, and Pikachu was the only first gen that currently uses it.

"We're not accepting numbers until release"

Hi, I'm not sure if I missed anything or otherwise misunderstand, but where does it say that "we're not accepting numbers until release" per what you said here? From my understanding text information is allowed from datamines, and surely that would count at "text information", no? Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect! 20:30, 5 December 2018 (EST)

There's a banner prominently displayed on literally all of the Ultimate character pages. The numbers I removed from the Walk page fall into this category as well. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 20:42, 5 December 2018 (EST)
I'd argue that information derived from the datamines would not be considered "pre-release gameplay footage", as the notice puts it, so the notice would not apply since, technically, the info is coming from a released (albeit illegal) final copy of the game. Rtzxy Reflect.jpg Reflect! 21:01, 5 December 2018 (EST)
I thought about the text information qualifier too, but ultimately decided that data numbers would still count as the 'specific data' that we're trying to keep out currently. Again, day one patches are going to be a thing, and with lots of other kurogane data put out, it probably should be taken down as well. However, with less than a day to go until release, it's probably not worth it at this point. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 21:11, 5 December 2018 (EST)

This here

Your first reversion of this was justified, as the edit was just awkward, but the underlying point was fine. The second one (which I linked) was not fine because a genuine effort was put forth to correct the issue you called them out on, it just came out awkward still. This is not edit warring, they were attempting to fix their mistake and you jumped their ass for it. Instead of reverting with a snarky comment, instead, you should have helped them rewrite the point being made in encyclopediac form. Help don't hinder. Serpent SKSig.png King 17:54, 12 January 2019 (EST)

You were literally just called out for this behavior last night and you're doing it again. You and Aidan are wrong, semicolons are used to separate items in a list where the items themselves contain commas, as the IP clearly stated in his edit summary (evidence).
Also, if you're going to be snarky about policy, you should probably also reread SW:ADMIN, where a section very clearly states administrators do not have additional say in content disputes, contrary to your edit summary. – Emmett 05:53, 13 January 2019 (EST)

– Emmett 08:20, 13 January 2019 (EST)

Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 10:09, 17 January 2019 (EST)

I'd certainly say you had a lot to get off your chest. 15DollarsWentSouth 03:04, 21 January 2019 (EST)
