The Nintendo Direct tomorrow

At first glance, one would assume this particular direct shouldn't be newsworthy here. But I am betting that they will announce the release date of ROB famicom, Ryu, and Roy amiibo at least. Which begs the question, is amiibo-related news something notable into the future? I mean, all 59 of those plastic figures will surely take a ton of time judging the current lineup. They already announced the release dates for those three in the final Smash presentation in December. If they announce release dates for any of the last three Smash amiibo (Cloud, Corrin, Bayonetta) in this Direct, we can put that on the news template. Miles (talk) 17:02, 2 March 2016 (EST)

Well, seeing as the SSB4 development team has disbanded and gone on for vacation for now, I don't think we'll get a patch. We still might get amiibo release dates, though, so we should keep an eye out for that. BaconMasterLuck o the Irish. 17:18, 2 March 2016 (EST)

I didn't know that those dates were finalized Miles, oops. Anyway, of course if anything else happens to the actual Smash game then it's newsworthy (not to mention the almost guaranteed probability that release dates for Smash series games will be announced.) The main reason for this thread was simply to ask if every amiibo announcement is worth mentioning at this point. I mean, they could keep coming out into 2017. Games order

Is there a reason why Smash 4 results seemingly are always mentioned first? – Smiddle 04:21, 4 July 2016 (EDT)

It's just the ordering of the news template, similar to how it's done on the smasher template where it lists their Smash 4 mains first. However, I should mention that for the three results before WTFox 2 (where Melee was the largest game), Smash 4 was the largest game at those respective tournaments. Regarding Stage Builder

Lots of discussion on the talk page regarding the fact that the Stage Builder isn't technically in, it's just been shown in an advertisement. Is it still good to keep the news as is stating that it's confirmed, despite the fact it's technically speculation? I don't think it is, but I'm not going to edit it until there's consensus. I'd say probably not, as the news isn't specific to Smash or a franchise related to Smash. But I don't know for sure, so I would wait for someone higher up to give their decree one way or the other. Aykrivwassup (talk) 14:34, April 17, 2020 (EDT)

Spirit events?

I'd generally support having a portion of this template indicate the week's Spirit Board event or Event Tourney, since we seem to get one or the other weekly pretty consistently. Miles (talk) 15:27, January 6, 2021 (EST)

Posting current ongoing tournament

Similar to how we have the current weekly in-game event in the news column, what if we added current major tournaments taking place right now. For example, we could show that GENESIS 8 is currently ongoing so people can easily see incase they want to watch it live. We already post results after the finals are finished. I think it is newsworthy to post the information during or even before the event.

Here are some examples of how it could be displayed:

Upcoming major tournament(s):GENESIS 8

Should probably note that something similar has been suggested in the past to no avail. My opinion is still largely the same, in that unless we have some way to automatically update the section, I don't see a section like this really useful. CookiesCreme 13:20, April 15, 2022 (EDT)

I did not know about the previous proposal until now. I do have a question. Why does it need to be updated automatically? People already manually update weekly in-game event, so I see no reason why the same can't be done for this (Edit: I just realized you made the same point in the forum). The news section is updated regularly anyways.

Regarding the complaint in the forum about tournaments lasting only a few days, I think it would make most sense to post the tournament beforehand (at the beginning of the week perhaps, as virtually all major tournaments take place on weekends). After the tournament is over, it can be removed and replaced by the same edit that posts the results of the tournament. -- Ethan (Discussion) 14:18, April 15, 2022 (EDT)

It's more so just a personal preference so we don't have to remember to make changes to the section every time a national tournament concludes, especially when tournaments often end late at night on my end. CookiesCreme 15:18, April 15, 2022 (EDT)

It wouldn't be impossible to make an automatic list. Using the following creates a list for current tournaments: {{#categorytree:Current events|mode=pages|hideroot=on|hideprefix=always|namespaces=Tournament|style="display:inline-flex"}} (inline-flex is to put it into one line, is a list format otherwise). There's no way I've found to add commas, limit it to a certain number, sort it, or really any finer control and it also requires JavaScript. A better way would be with Extension:DynamicPageList which we don't have and may be the "extensions we don't currently have" that Toomai mentioned in the forum. --CanvasK (talk) 15:30, April 15, 2022 (EDT)
