Banana
No it's not that simple. There exists a single standalone item of the banana peel, they do not only exist from Diddy spawning them. And as Sakurai shown with a bunch of his snapshots, he likes to take funny ones like that, and it could just by a mythology gag. Is it likely the return of the move? Yes. Is it at all confirmed? Not until we see actual spawning. Like with the whole Green Missile thing with Luigi, don't jump the fucking gun, we can wait for actual confirmation. Omega Tyrant 02:21, 21 February 2014 (EST)
- I agree with this; its why I didn't initially list the move when I added the unchanged moves list. Diddy isn't shown using his special move to generate the peel, so it's entirely possible he doesn't have the move anymore at all. Unlikely, but possible. ♡FirstaLasto♥ 02:24, 21 February 2014 (EST)
- Why would Sakurai show us a picture of Diddy Kong taunting next to someone tripping over a Bannana Peel, if it wasn't his? What would be the point of waiting for one to spawn, so they could pose diddy kong next too it, and then have Fox go and trip on it, when they could just Give Diddy the same down-b as he had in Brawl, to have him trip? Really, your making no sense.
"We should totally show Fox tripping over a banana peel next to Diddy Kong!"
"Oh, is he tripping over one of Diddy's?"
"No, its just a generic one that happened to be on the stage while I'm taking pictures for his reveal."
How, in what world, would that make sense? Again, why would they show Diddy, next to someone tripping over a Banana Peel, if it wasn't his own? If the move were to be replaced, don't you think they would just not bother to include it?
Ixbran (talk) 02:28, 21 February 2014 (EST)- To reference that he had the move in Brawl? Or maybe just a joke based on the fact that he is a monkey? ♡FirstaLasto♥ 02:32, 21 February 2014 (EST)
- They have done stuff like that before. Like with the Fairy Bottle picture, they waited for one to spawn (or spawned one themselves...you know, they are creating the game, they have the ability to do so), and put Bowser and Peach in interesting poses. There is no physical proof that the banana was spawned by Diddy. As the two above stated, it's very likely, but not confirmed. Skittles (talk•contribs•logs)
- As I said:

- "And as Sakurai shown with a bunch of his snapshots, he likes to take funny ones like that, and it could just by a mythology gag."
- Diddy is associated with bananas, leaving a pic like that topical and of high comedy value. Seriously dude, stop taking everything so literally. Additionally;
- "Like with the whole Green Missile thing with Luigi, don't jump the fucking gun, we can wait for actual confirmation."
- We are in no race, we don't need to jump and say everything with the slightest hint is confirmed. A picture of Diddy with a banana peel doesn't confirm it, when you can very well take the same picture of Diddy with the banana item. Lets wait to see the actual spawning, when it's then completely undisputed. Omega Tyrant 02:35, 21 February 2014 (EST)
- my head hurts trying to understand how any of you could possibly think this could be anything other than his special move, but you know what, fine, what ever. It'll be confirmed eventually. Everyone else on the internet likely knows what it means. But hey, I guess being the last to acknowledge it would be the hipsterish thing to do ...?
Ixbran (talk) 02:41, 21 February 2014 (EST)- Knock it off with that "better-than-thou" attitude, and actually read what we said. Lots of idiots will jump on and think it's the move because they just see "Diddy and banana", without stopping to think it could just be the item. That doesn't mean it's confirmed in the slightest. Omega Tyrant 02:46, 21 February 2014 (EST)
- I'm not? I am not trying to come off as "better-than-thou", but since I appear to be coming off as such, I greatly apologize. But seriously, I really don't see how it could be anything but his own move. Why wait to have a banana peel item to spawn for fox to trip over for the sake of a picture, when he'd be able to just use his move to summon it? I am getting a legit headache trying to wrap my head around the logic of that being the actual set up for the image. It makes no sense to me what so ever to use an item that just spawned, over it being brought out via Diddy's down special. Why go through the trouble of waiting for one to appear, when they could just bring it out themselves as Diddy? What would be the point of that?
Ixbran (talk) 02:54, 21 February 2014 (EST)- Did you seriously not read anything any of us have said? I'll put it in simple terms:

- Because Monkey + banana = hilarity
- Could just be a reference to the fact Diddy had the move in Brawl, to then swerve us that he no longer has the move, which is certainly plausible considering the move's infamous brokeness in Brawl and the fact a Diddy/Dixie team in the form of Zelda/Sheik is heavily speculated.
- "Waiting around for an item" is not something preposterous, when it takes like less than a minute if you just have that item on and they took much more elaborate snapshots with items already to joke around and reference shit.
- Like I said, stop taking everything you see so literally and only at face value. Recognise Sakurai and rest of the Nintendo people have a sense of humor. Again it is likely a banana spawned by Diddy, but it's not confirmed when you can take that same snapshot with the item banana. Omega Tyrant 03:09, 21 February 2014 (EST)
- Also, they wouldn't have to wait for the item to spawn, they are the devs, they can debug menu spawn it. Or hell, even training mode spawn it, assuming they've implemented it already. Taking that screenshot would take them like 5 seconds. ♡FirstaLasto♥ 12:36, 21 February 2014 (EST)

- Not to mention some think Sheik isnt returning because she isnt shown. Me? Yea I think Sheik and the bananas are returning but its all possible. --TheLegendaryKRB (talk) 13:07, 21 February 2014 (EST)
Up Tilt
Much like Bowser's Jab and Down Tilt were changed from Claw Swipes to Punches, it looks like Diddy's Up Tilt has changed from a uppercut slap to a regular uppercut punch. Burb
Crawling?
Now it's likely that Diddy is just pulling off another move in the screenshot with the Pikmin, but still, doesn't that look like crawling to anyone else? Because I don't wanna add that Diddy can crawl since it hasn't been stated. MeatBall104: Get In Mah Belleh!!! 19:46, 27 March 2014 (EDT)
- It does look like he's crawling. However, it can still just be his crouching animation. Best to wait for animated proof (video or animated gif) or Sakurai stating Diddy can crawl. One picture of King Dedede led people to believe that he has his pink palette swap, but further analysis of comparing the lighting on other Mario Galaxy stage and looking at how drastically different Dedede's pink palette swap in Brawl showed that the picture didn't confirm anything about palette swaps. It's best to wait for seeing Diddy crawling in a video instead of judging a still picture. SeanWheeler (talk) 21:30, 27 March 2014 (EDT)
Monkey Flip
Monkey Flip was shown several times during the direct. Whether the kick or grab accompany it I am not sure, but he very clearly does the flip animation. I'll watch it again to see if I catch him kicking or grabbing an opponent. JohnnyWellens 20:56, 13 May 2014 (EDT)
Overall nerf?
Initially, Diddy Kong was considered to be well buffed from Brawl due to his powerful combo abilities and racking up damage. However, being an Diddy Kong player myself, it is sad to see him get significantly nerfed in patch 1.0.8 after another heavy (but not as bad) nerf from the previous patch 1.0.6, which basically means that he was weakened so badly that his viability may not be dominate as he used to be in Brawl and before patch 1.0.8 (or patch 1.0.6; depends on how you look at it), where he could drop from top tier ranking somwhere in the top 4 to now middle tier at the very least 28th. I feel like that this now considers him as a nerfed character from Brawl. What would you guys say? Dots (talk) The Reaper 02:37, 25 June 2015 (EDT)
- As a Diddy player myself, I think saying he's middle tier is a bit of an overreaction, and claiming he's 28th is even more ludicrous. I'm pretty certain that he's still Top 15 at worst (at least high tier), but yes, 1.0.8 Diddy could be considered to be nerfed in comparison to his Brawl form. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 03:02, 25 June 2015 (EDT)
- At least tournaments won't be as much of a Diddypocalypse as usual 73MPL4R Only the dead have seen the end of war 08:56, 25 June 2015 (EDT)
- I remember a friend telling me his friend was complaining because he actually had to work to win with Diddy
(whiny little bitch)so there's definitely some nerfing going around... Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 08:59, 25 June 2015 (EDT)- And to make me really sad, Diddy Kong is pretty much the nerfing traget of Sakurai as of right now if ZeRo keeps on winning with him, every other character got massive buffs for the weaker character or didn't change for the ones considered top tier as of right now. Something needs to be straightened out.
I feel like putting {{tone}} up top of everything (especially without a summary on the tag) makes it seem vague and may confuse editors. This page, in particular, confuses me for its tag. Explanation? Ganonmew, The TERRIFYING Evil Clone 17:16, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
- "surprisingly decent", references to "tiers" in SSB4 (see SW:TONE), and inconsistent presentation of Diddy's status regarding popularity and buffs/nerfs. Miles (talk) 17:29, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
- Well, "surprisingly decent" is supposed to represent how Diddy's reach is surprising for a character of his size. I'll get on the case anyway. Ganonmew, The TERRIFYING Evil Clone 18:01, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Was Diddy really nerfed THAT much?
I think these nerfs may be a little overstated. Obviously, he was nerfed a lot, but other than uair and d-throw, was anything really nerfed that bad? 1.0.6 and 1.0.8 are really the only updates that nerfed him. Does anyone here think he wasn't nerfed overall from Brawl to SSB4, and would be better to use "heavily" instead of "significantly" for the patch changes? Also, what should we say about Sheik? I guess we will see her results. Diddy still has great results. -- Ethan(Discussion) 12:41, 24 March 2016 (EDT)
- I think he wasn't significantly nerfed overall between Brawl and Sm4sh, too. However, isn't the connotation of "heavily" more heavy-handed (pun unintended) than that of "significantly"? Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 13:21, 24 March 2016 (EDT)
