An exploit is a case in video games where two or more separate mechanics individually work as intended, but when combined, yield an effect that is not intended to occur. Exploits are different from glitches, which occur due to programming oversights affecting a singular process; that said, there can be some grey area between what defines a glitch and what defines an exploit.
Exploits in the Super Smash Bros. series have been rare; thus far, these exploits have seen use in tournaments, where they are generally considered legal.
Notable exploits
- Wavedashing - Involves a combination of how the game handles momentum created by air dodging and the "slipperiness" of grounded characters.
- Wobbling - Involves a combination of characters being unable to break out of grabs while being pummeled and both Popo and Nana being considered the same character.
- The Omnigay - Involves a combination of Snake's C4 being able to attach to characters, the up throw of Meta Knight or Kirby taking characters above the upper blast line, and Faux Super Armor as a result of port priority.
