Pichu makes a playable appearance in this game, albeit as the weakest character and an intentional "joke" fighter.

:A Tiny Mouse Pokemon identifiable by its big ears, Pichu evolves into Pikachu. It's not very skilled at storing up electrical energy and will sometimes discharge it if jarred. Although it's small, it has enough electrical power to give even an adult quite a shock. It's often startled by its own power.

:Compared with Pikachu, Pichu is a tad more nimble and a little more difficult to hit. Those are the only two advantages, however, and since Pichu damages itself when it uses electrical attacks, it's best suited for handicapped matches. Even though Pichu's tough to catch, it's easy to throw its tiny frame great distances. (B: Thunder Jolt, Smash B: Skull Bash)

:'''Pichu''' ''(Smash Blue)''
:Pichu is the lightest character in Super Smash Brox. Melee, and it's top of the class in weakness, too! For Pichu, it's all about scampering her and there to pick up items that will help it survive. The first warp in Agility causes 1 point of damage to Pichu, and the second causes 3, so try to limit the number of times you use the move. (Up & B: Agility, Down & B: Thunder)

==''In Super Smash Bros. Brawl''==
It is currently unknown if Pichu will return in [[Brawl]]. However, in a recent commercial video, there was a "Stickers" section. When the Groudon Sticker was selected, it was shown that that sticker could be used on Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer, Jigglypuff, and Lucario. Because these are all Pokémon, it can be inferred that any Pokémon appearing in the game would appear there. The lack of Pichu's appearance suggests that he is not going to be a playable character in Brawl unless he and Mewtwo are not in the Subspace Emissary Mode; or for whatever reason, are simply unable to use the Groudon sticker. It is also rumored that after his appearance in
Melee he evolved and simply took the original Pikachu's place because the "Color Changes" update showed that he had Pichu's blue goggles.

Pichu is a small Electric-type Pokémon that appears as Pikachu's "clone" in Melee. His moveset is virtually identical to Pikachu's, however, there are some subtle differences. For example, when Pichu's Skull Bash is completely charged, it will almost always send the opponent flying (It does take longer to charge than Pikachu's though). One drawback when playing as Pichu is the fact that he hurts himself with his most powerful moves, so most of the time you'll find yourself relying on items.
