With Smash 4 on its way and everyone being hyped for it, lets make a game out of everyone's favorite thing to predict about the new Smash; which characters will be on the playable roster.

This game isn't about just who can predict the most characters, but who can also successfully predict the most unlikely characters as well.

Rules[edit]

Rules are subject to change midgame, and you may be mandated to alter your ballot in some form midgame.
  • Disclaimer: This may or may not be a fair game, I cannot know. It's purely for fun. Try not to go all super-math minmax serious.
    • Additionally, if you're an IP and you want to play, you must create an account so that your selections remain fully traceable back to you.
  • Players get 30 character selections. This value may be decreased for potential new players as more and more characters are confirmed.
    • This contest is now closed to new entries.
  • Choose a character for each selection, either the return of a veteran or a newcomer, who has not been confirmed yet, that you think will make the playable roster in Smash 4. Additionally, you must make a minimum of 10 newcomer predictions. The inverse applies as well; you can make no more than 20 newcomer predictions.
  • If the character is confirmed or shows up playable in the final product, you will get points based on how common the pick was at the time of confirmation. Each correct pick will give a minimum point value of 1 (if everyone at the time picked it), with an additional point for each person that didn't pick the character. The accurate prediction of a newcomer will be worth double the points. The accurate prediction of a third party newcomer will be worth triple the points.
  • You can change your selections at any time up until the full roster reveal. However, for each changed selection, you will be penalised 1 point. Also keep in mind I may set a deadline before the full roster reveal and lock any changes or new predictions from being made.
    • Penalty for changing a pick is now 2 points.
    • Penalty for changing a pick is now 3 points.
    • For one more note, if a character you selected gets confirmed, that selection is locked and you cannot change it. This also applies to any characters you selected that get confirmed to not be returning.
    • In the event of a credible leak, the leaked character(s) won't be counted as confirmed here until confirmed officially. However, the leaked character(s) will be locked from future selections (and anyone who selected the character(s) will have their choice(s) locked).
    • Ballots may no longer be edited.
  • Your ballot must have at least three different selections from the most similar ballot. This is to prevent people from copying the ballots of others.
  • If you ever get put on probation or are in serious risk for it, you'll be barred from entering (or if you already entered, your ballot will be disqualified), until you reach satisfactory status and are no longer on probation nor in serious risk for it.

Additional notes[edit]

  • If you think Pokemon Trainer as a whole will return, he is only worth 1 selection. If you think he won't though but his individual pokemon will, they each will be counted as separate selections.
    • Additionally, if you think pokemon of the PT will be replaced, each prediction will count as an individual selection. If you think there will be a new trainer, you must specify which trainer, and it will also count as an individual selection.
    • Also, by selecting his individual pokemon without specifying otherwise, it counts as an individual pick. As such, if you chose Charizard, and he returns back as part of the PT, it will not count as a correct selection.
  • Majora's Mask Link (where he operates like the Pokemon Trainer and can utilise his transformation masks) counts as a single selection.
  • Mewtwo and his mega form will be counted as a single character, no need to choose between them.
    • The same also applies to Lucario and his mega form (or any other potential pokemon with a mega form).
  • Claus and Masked Man will be counted as separate characters. In the event that Claus is added and uses both forms to fight, or a general Claus is added who can use either model, both Claus and Masked Man selections will be scored together.
    • However, you cannot choose both Claus and Masked Man, as I will not allow the potential for double scoring off of one character confirmation, and it would complicate scoring for others in the event of a general Claus being confirmed.
  • Zelda and Sheik count as separate characters.
    • This will also be the case for a Diddy/Dixie tandem that work like Zelda/Sheik, or any other such characters that work that way.
  • Removed Melee characters will be considered newcomers, and are thus worth double the points for a correct prediction.
  • This contest will conclude at Smash 4's release (or when the full roster is revealed), and as such, any potential characters added after release via DLC will not be considered here, unless the DLC is confirmed before release.

Prize[edit]

The winner will receive a copy of Super Smash Bros. 4 for either the Wii U or 3DS (whichever the winner chooses). Keep in mind that in order to receive this prize, you will have to give me your address upon winning the contest, and you probably won't be able to get a copy of the game on the release date. Also, if you live outside the US and lack an online retailer in your region, you may have to help cover shipping charges if they're particularly expensive. Conversely, I can get a 3DS/Wii U prepaid card and give the code to a foreign user if they don't mind getting a digital copy.

There are no plans at the time for a prize for runner ups. In the event someone wins who doesn't want the prize, they can opt for the next highest placing user to get the prize.

Entrants[edit]

To submit an entry;

  • Create a new subsection here, with your username in the title, and it linking to your userpage.
  • Copy the table I use and paste it under your header, where you then just replace my selections with yours.
  • Note: If you're severely incompetent with wiki editing and cannot do this on your own, post your ballot on the talk page and someone will add it for you. Only do this if you really cannot figure out how to submit your ballot yourself.

Additional notes:

  • Place returning veterans on top, and newcomers on the bottom. Additionally, try to organise by series.
  • When a character is confirmed, they will be bolded on each ballot they're on.
    • Characters confirmed to not be playable or extremely likely to not be playable (whether being confirmed as an Assist Trophy or another ingame role that isn't playable, or being confirmed by Sakurai himself or by a credible leak) will be struck out, which also signifies the pick being locked. Of course they could very well end up being a playable by the end, where they will then be scored normally; this is just done to prevent people from changing their picks of such characters after such a confirmation.
    • Characters that are the subject of a credible and yet to be disproven "leak" will be bolded and italicised, to indicate they're not confirmed but locked from being changed or selected.
  • It's recommended you update the selected characters tables in the next section as you submit a ballot, so they remain accurate. If you can't do it though without messing them up, wait and I or another user will update them.
