Snooping around my profile page? My name is Cozy, I live in London Ontario in Canada, and I've been playing Smash Bros since N64 when I was 5 years old, thanks to my uncle introducing me to video games when I was very little. I later got into Melee when my parents bought me a Game Cube when I was 12, then Brawl when I was 15 and had my own source of income by then. I continued to play casually until my 3rd year of University, where I was introduced to the Melee scene in my city, and then later to the Toronto scene in Canada.
My favorite game in the series is Melee, but I am also willing to play Brawl.
Smash Bros Competitive History
I started playing competitively with my brother in the beginning of my 3rd year of University (my brother's 1st year). The game I started with was Melee in my local scene, toggling between a bunch of random characters until I found a character I enjoyed. The first character I tried to play as seriously was one that I liked. I grew up playing Mario games, so I chose to try Peach, failing downsmashes, crouch cancels, floats and just about everything with her. I later settled to try Link: of course I wasn't winning with him, but I did start to notice many things about the mechanics and movement of Melee. It was with Link that I began to understand how Melee worked, the complexity and depth of the battle system, and how important positioning and spacing is. I main both Peach and Link now, only using Link for the Jigglypuff and occasional Samus matchups.
As for Brawl, I played it competitively at a Melee/Brawl tournament in Toronto: I really love the Brawl community in Toronto and Brawl as a game. Although I do not enjoy it as much as Melee, I do really like playing Brawl. However, I haven't had much of an opportunity to continue playing competitively. London has a very small interest for Brawl, so in order to play competitively I have to travel all the way to Toronto, which is a costly trip from London to participate in monthlies. Still, I'm fairly comfortable with Snake and Bowser, usually surprising some players with Bowser. With Smash Bros 4 just around the corner, my Brawl career will likely freeze and halt, as I plan to just focus on Melee and Smash 4.
In regards to Smash 4, I am very excited to try it. Nintendo has been doing many things to bring hype and life to the Smash Bros competitive scene. I know that it won't be anything like Melee, but I personally think that's a good thing: it's much better to keep a series fresh than to sell the same content with add-ons.
Mods
I do enjoy playing both Brawl Minus and Project M when given the chance. However, I will never go out of my way to seek out specific tournaments just for these mods, nor will I ever learn or find a strategy on matchups. In the end, they are mods of Brawl, a game that is going to die with the release of Smash 4, and even if Brawl doesn't die, they are still mods that will never get a look at by the official publisher nor streaming rights to be a main event.
I main Snake in both mods, toggling between Peach, Sonic and Bowser as my secondaries.
Other Info About Me
I am studying Computer Science and English at UWO, hoping to get myself into a technical writing job when I graduate. Aside from Smash Bros, I also play Pokemon and Mortal Kombat, although I haven't kept up with the competitive meta-games of these games for a while. Aside from video games, I also love playing board games: my favorite ones are Scrabble, Risk and Settlers of Catan. I became very athletic towards the end of my high school year, and got involved in many clubs and varsity teams in my University. I can play Badminton, do Parkour (Free-running), Break dance, and take great pictures of everything I enjoy doing. (look for the photographer in Smash Bros Tourneys!)
If you're ever in the Greater Toronto Area, make sure to post a message on the Facebook group! I'll direct you to a scene nearby and I'll try to make the trip there. I can't really promise that I will make it: during the summer, I work a full-time 9 - 5 office job that requires my full attendance, and during the school year I have to study and work part time, leaving my schedule very tight to weekends only.
My dream with Smash Bros is to expand my horizons, meet new people, and gain experience in this everchanging world that we all share. The life lessons that this game has to teach are limitless, as I have experience in my short competitive career, and I hope to one day write about them in this personal user page I created.
