Wombo Combo

The Wombo Combo.

The Wombo Combo refers to both a combo and a video from the competitive Smash community. The video itself is from a California tournament with commentary by HomeMade Waffles, Phil, and Mango in response to an impromptu combo started by Silent Spectre and Tang against Zhu.

Origin

The Wombo Combo was "accidentally" performed on Battlefield by Silent Spectre (Captain Falcon)/Tang (Fox) from the green team and used on Zhu, who was on the blue team with Lucky, and both were playing as Fox. Zhu's partner, Lucky, was KO'd shortly beforehand and thus the match became a 2 vs. 1. The combo consisted of a constant grab release followed up with a final combo culminating in a Knee Smash that did 77% damage to KO Zhu and end the match. SS and Tang went on to top the loser's bracket and push the grand finals to a second set where they ultimately lost to Mango and PsychoMidget.

The combo video later became extremely popular in other communities on the Internet, not just the Smash community; this is due to the video's humorous reactions that can be partially applied to a wide variety of other games, coining such phrases as "That ain't Falco!", and "Get yo' ass whooped!". The commentary has since been applied to other videos to give them humor value; for example, a modified "You mad 'cause I'm stylin' on you" video was later uploaded with commentary from the Wombo Combo video, where Mango, Phil, and HomeMadeWaffles yell their signature quotes as a fight breaks out when the talking man opposite the one in front of the camera is punched.

The combo is named after a pizza from the pizza chain "Round Table Pizza". Based on the commentary from the previous match of the set, the term "Wombo Combo" was also used before the match as one of two things: the combo of Reflector to up smash, or any impressive team combo. Of course, once the combo occured, any previous connotations were completely forgotten, with the term now exclusively referring to this specific combo.

"Sequels" to the Wombo Combo

Wombo Combo 2

A later reenactment of the Wombo Combo was during a match between SS and Tang vs. Phil + Falcomist on Corneria. The tournament that this event was taken was in the CGC @ SFSU IX(9) (Bi-Weeklies) Grand Finals 2.2 in San Francisco, CA. The date that this was taken was 05/02/09. The commentary was by HomeMadeWaffles and Replicate.

This sequel is the only Wombo Combo video to not take place on Battlefield.

Lunch money combo

The lunch money combo was performed in a match between SS/Tang vs Shroomed/D.P on Battlefield (the same stage as the original Wombo Combo). The tournament that this event was taken was in the CGC @ SFSU XIII(13) Winners Finals 1.3 in San Francisco, CA. The date that this event was taken was 11/7/09. The commentary was by HMW and Darrell.

The UGS combo

Commonly considered the European version of the Wombo Combo, the UGS combo was done by Armada (Peach) and Aniolas (Sheik) on a Falco on Battlefield (note the connection to the quote "That ain't Falco!" from the original video). A remixed video was later made, featuring audio from the original Wombo Combo video.
