Lucas (リュカ, Ryuka) is a character in the EarthBound universe, debuting in the Japan-only MOTHER 3 for Game Boy Advance.

Character description

Lucas is the main protagonist of Mother 3.He is a timid young boy around 7-9 years-old (almost 13 at the end of the game), that is similar in appearance to Ninten, and Ness from the previous EarthBound games. Lucas is Claus's younger twin. After the intro when he grows up, he is drafted by Wes to find Duster and Kumatora. He learns PSI and begins to battle against the Pig Mask Army to be able to pull all 7 needles to awaken the dragon living under Nowhere Island, which will allow him a wish.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

A popular rumor states that in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Lucas was meant to replace Ness as a playable character, but Ness was included due to time constraints. The rumor was substantiated by Sakurai himself on July 17th, 2001 when he updated the original Melee site with Ness's profile. Quoth Sakurai-san:

• 実は当初、MOTHER3の主人公に変更する予定でしたが、いろいろあって遠回りしながら、元のさやに収まりました。
• ("Actually, initially, MOTHER3 character change but, for many reasons roundabout with the original cod in history.")

Loosely translated, Sakurai states that Ness was intended to be replaced by a MOTHER3 character (presumably Lucas) in Melee, but since MOTHER3 had been delayed--indefinitely, at the time--Ness returned for SSBM. Both Ness and Lucas appear as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Lucas has been confirmed to be a new playable character for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, accompanying Ness as a representative of the EarthBound series. His Special Moves have been revealed on the Super Smash Bros. DOJO!! website. The majority of Lucas's Special Moves are much like Ness's moves from the previous two games. [1] [2]. Ness does in fact return as a hidden character, and his special moves differ only slightly from Lucas's, indicating he is a semi-clone.

The younger of twin brothers living in Tazumili Village in the Nowhere Islands. He's a kind boy who can communicate with animals, but he's shy and never really got over the tragedy that struck his mother. He fights a warped dictatorship, hunts the Seven Needles, and crosses swords with his missing brother, Claus. In the end, the young boy with psychic PSI powers grows up.
