Clone characters are playable characters that have similar movesets to other characters within the same game. Creating a larger roster is usually the reason for the creation of clone characters but unique movesets are more desirable. Having special moves that are strikingly similar to another character constitute them being a clone. Typically the clone's special moves will be the same except for visual differences and minor damage or effect changes. As of now, only unlockable characters have been considered clones and Roy is considered one since you must unlock him after unlocking Marth.

In Melee, Luigi and Pichu are a unique case since, their side special moves are clones while the rest of their special moveset mimicks Mario and Picachu respectively.

Luigi is the only clone character to appear in Super Smash Bros.
