The Forest is an area of the Subspace Emissary. It is where Link is seen walking and Yoshi is seen sleeping. It is where the red door to the Great Sea is. The Great Sea stage is where Toon Link is and you have to fight him.
It is commonly thought to be the ruins of temple of time as the master sword lays rest here, as it did in twilight princess, but these claims have been argued and it is said to be non canonical to the storyline of twilight princess.
