Darkrai (ダークライ, Dākurai) is a legendary Pokémon introduced in the 4th generation of the franchise.

Creature description

Darkrai is a moderately-sized legendary ghostly entity appearing to represent pure darkness. The top of its body is connected to the lower half by a tiny waist, giving it a figure shaped like an hourglass. A white substance flows from its head as its "hair", obscuring much of its facial features. Its club-shaped arms are clawed and look muscular, with parts of them appearing tattered.

Darkrai is stated by the Pokédex to be active during nights of the new moon, during which it can lull people to sleep and make them dream horrific nightmares. It does this as a protective measure, however, and means no harm or malicious intent in the long run. In Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, Darkrai resides on Newmoon Island, and can only be legally reached and captured by a player with assistance from a Nintendo event.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Darkrai appears as a regular trophy in Brawl.

Trophy Description

A Pitch-Black Pokémon. It becomes active on nights of the new moon. This legendary Pokémon has the power to lull people to sleep and fill their heads with dreams. Proverbs say that Darkrai will make people have terrifying dreams on moonless nights. A Dark-type Pokémon, Darkrai uses the Dark Void move, along with Embargo, which stops foes from using held items.
