The Mystery Dungeon universe (不思議のダンジョン, Mystery Dungeon) refers to the Super Smash Bros. series' collection of properties hailing from the series of roguelike, role-playing games created originally by Chunsoft, now Spike Chunsoft. The player takes the role of a protagonist, most of the time silent, who travels across the world to discover mysterious dungeons; randomly generated rooms who never have the same layouts upon entering into it multiple times, and resolve conflicts, with them accompanied by a group of party members or going alone. Although being popularized by the spin-off series Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, its fanbase can be seen as moderately popular in Japan, and has a smaller following of dedicated fans in the west. Starting as a spin-off of Dragon Quest IV, it eventually grew to include other developers and publishers as it spans to multiple console generations, platforms, and uses both original characters, under the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series, and licensed character as crossovers, including Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Pokémon.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team is mentioned among the titles listed in the Chronicle in Brawl, while Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness was exclusively listed for the Japanese release of Brawl.

In Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]

The Mystery Dungeon universe made its debut in Super Smash Bros. 4 as a dependent universe, depending on Final Fantasy.

Mii Costume[edit]

A hat of the Chocobo appears as a DLC headgear for the Mii Fighter, whose design was based of the Chocobo spin-off series. Its appearance is based of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

The Mystery Dungeon universe returned as a depending universe of Final Fantasy, with only an update of the Chocobo's hat design.

Mii Costume[edit]
