Recipherus is a retired Melee Sheik main from Los Angeles, California. He was well-known for briefly being considered Melee's best player in the game's competitive beginnings before Ken emerged, back when tournament rulesets still had items on and had most stages legal, while he would remain Ken's strongest competition in the pre-MLG era after Ken started competing. He consistently placed top 3 at all tournaments he entered during this time, while also travelling across the US to compete, notably placing 2nd at MOAST and 1st at Snexus 2, and additionally won a then-record-setting $8,000 for 1st at IVGF Northwest Regionals (a record he would hold until PC Chris earned $10,000 for winning MLG Las Vegas 2006 over three years later). His dominance in this time period would retroactively get him ranked 2nd by RetroSSBMRank for their 2001-2003 ranking, being only outranked by Ken.
In 2004, when the MLG era kicked off, Recipherus would attend the final Tournament Go and Melee's first supermajor, Tournament Go 6, but he would have by far his worst performance yet, placing 17th. After this, he would quietly retire and never compete in a Melee tournament again, as he found it too difficult to keep up with the rising level of competition while having increasingly less time to practice and attend tournaments himself.[1] He would make a reappearance in Brawl shortly after the game was released, but this return was very brief, as after entering only a couple tournaments, he would disappear from the Smash community again. He was mentioned in the The Smash Brothers documentary, but was not asked for an interview, despite Recipherus later stating he would have been opened to an interview.[2] In June 2015, Recipherus did an AMA on the Smash subreddit, r/Smashbros, but indicated that he was not interested in returning to competitive Smash, and that remains Recipherus' last known involvement with the Smash community.[3]

Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
- Tournament Go 4 Grand Finals - Ken (Marth) vs. Recipherus (Sheik) - The only known recorded tournament match in Melee of Recipherus that is online, with Ken commentating the final game of their grand finals set at Tournament Go 4. Tournament Go matches were known to be recorded and sold in DVDs by Matt Deezie, so it's possible Recipherus had more matches recorded, but most of the contents from these DVDs have not been uploaded online and so are currently considered lost media.
