While I cannot find any concrete evidence of that, Masahiro Sakurai has discussed about translucent mini-maps in a video from June 2023. In there, he says he liked it and would even mention the Mystery Dungeon series as the "one series that's really stuck with him" for this mechanic. You can also see, in the same video, an example of it in Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer. I wonder if the Mystery Dungeon franchise was the inspiration for the Radar in Super Smash Bros.
