Koopa Klaw Tournament was a Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament held in Montpellier, France, on February 26th, 2005. It was the first iteration of the Dirty South Tournament series, which would become the longest-lasting series of the early days of Melee in France, only ending in 2011. This tournament, retroactively known as Dirty South Tournament 1, is also notable for being Captain Jack's first recorded tournament in Europe.

Format[edit]

The tournament began with a Swiss Rounds phase, with sets being best of 3, with 3 stocks and a 6-minute timer. Top 16 advanced to the double-elimination bracket, with sets being best of 5, with 4 stocks and an 8-minute timer. Grand Finals was best of 7. The rules state that there must be at least a 2 game margin for Grand Finals, though it appears this clause didn't come into play during the tournament. Items were turned off.

Stagelist[edit]

Both the starter stage and the decider stage were selected at random between the following stages: Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Story, Dream Land, Pokémon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams.

The following stages were banned during the counterpicking process: Brinstar Depths, Great Bay, Icicle Mountain, Rainbow Cruise, Yoshi's Island, Poké Floats, Fourside, Big Blue, Hyrule Temple, Flat Zone. In addition, each player could ban one stage from the entire stage list before starting the set, which would remain banned for the remainder of the set. Dave's Stupid Rule wasn't in application during counterpicks.
