Fire Bird is Falco's Up Special Move in both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
|image=
Fire Bird does 14% damage, has high priority and has a controllable trajectory at the beginning, but because of its starting lag, Falco can be hit while beginning it and sent farther away from the field; its range is very limited and in Brawl Falco's Phantasm is better for horizontal recovery. This move is very similar to Fire Fox. However, unlike Fire Fox, which is a single hit when moving, and multiple hits while charging, Fire Bird can hit opponents with multiple small hits when moving, followed by a stronger finishing blow (this case is similar to both Ness and Lucas' PK Thunder), and can also hit when charging. Its distance is too short to be of any use while trying to approach. Its only use would be vertical or diagonal recovery. To maximize the usefulness of Fire Bird, one should try to position Falco exactly under the ledge and use it completely vertical, this way it can sweetspot easier.

Fire Bird (ファイアバード, Fire Bird) is Falco's up special move in all games he appears in.

Unlike the Fire Fox, it doesn't burn opponents during the charge-up animation in Melee, but in Brawl it does. It also appears to cover a slightly shorter distance with less horizontal movement after completion.

Fire Bird is almost identical to Fire Fox, but with some small differences. Its best use would be vertical or diagonal recovery because it has lots of start-up, short distance, and Falco falls almost straight down after using it, meaning it can easily be edge-hogged or hit out of. The move sweetspots more easily when used vertically. From Brawl onwards, Fire Bird burns opponents during the charge-up animation.

Fire Bird (ファイアバード, Fire Bird) is Falco's up special move in all games he appears in.

Overview[edit]

Fire Bird is almost identical to Fire Fox, but with some small differences. Unlike Fire Fox, which only hits an opponent once after Fox starts moving, Fire Bird can hit opponents with multiple small hits after a few frames when the move is charged and when moving, followed by a stronger finishing blow similar to Lucas' PK Thunder 2.

Instructional quote[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Move List Falco (SSBU) Wraps himself in flame, and dashes through the air in the direction the control stick is titled.

Customization[edit]

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

1. Fire Bird 2. Fast Fire Bird 3. Distant Fire Bird
Fire Bird
Fast Fire Bird
Distant Fire Bird
NTSC "Wrap yourself in flame, and dash through the air in the direction of your choosing."

PAL "Sends you flying in flames. While charging, you can choose the direction of flight."

"Same as Fire Bird, but you can dash instantly. You don't go as far, though." NTSC "Takes longer to charge but flies farther and hits enemies harder."

PAL "Takes a while to charge, but flies much further and hits enemies harder."

 1. Fire Bird: Default.
 2. Fast Fire Bird: Significantly reduces the charging part of the move, causing Falco to shoot in the desired direction almost immediately, whilst removing almost all of the move's damage potential and reducing the knockback and distance travelled.
 3. Distant Fire Bird: Takes longer to charge and is slower, but travels farther, and the powerful hit at the end of the move is removed in favor of a very powerful hit at the end of the charging animation (with the charging no longer doing damage outside of this hit).
