Talk:Starman (EarthBound)

Name discussion

So Super Star just got moved from "Starman (item)", leaving this enemy as the only Starman. But the term "Starman" is still widely-used for the item, and is the in-game name for it in the first three games. There's a few things we can do with this page, such as:

1. Leave it as it is.
2. Move it to "Starman (enemy)". Where else do we use the series name as a specifier?
3. Move it to "Starman" and carefully ensure that all pages of the first three games don't link here by mistake.

I like option #3, since it's the only one of its kind. If we can't do that, then at least do #2, because we shouldn't use a series name as a specifier. Rtzxy Reflect!!! 18:49, 3 November 2014 (EST)

Personally, since some people will be looking for Super Star by it's old term, I wouldn't move it to "Starman". I'd rather that page remain a redirect to the disambiguation. Starman (enemy) sounds like the best option to me. Mistiryshak (talk) 18:52, 3 November 2014 (EST)

We can rename to 'Starman', and just put this on the top of the page. There's no reason to have the '(enemy)' there when the type of Starman appearing doesn't need to be specified. Qwerty (talk) 20:03, 3 November 2014 (EST)

(I assume this goes here?) The tag is up, supporting this for the previous reasons given, as well as the one on the move proposal itself. Even back in the day, Starman was a rare name to see on the Mario star. I more commonly saw "Power Star" back then. --Plague von Karma 19:01, July 26, 2023 (EDT)

"NES" vs "Famicom"

I feel like, in the same way I removed the "Japan-only" flag indicator from stuff like Mother and The Mysterious Murasame Castle, we should be using "NES" in the console line. It's not particularly important, yeah, but I think it's kind of inconsistent not to. Especially in the case of Mother, since its VC release is based on a prototype cartridge that's definitely for a North American NES. Miles (talk) 16:51, 25 November 2015 (EST)

Removal of Japan-only flag indicator is logical. It's a weird case since the game is definitely for NES, but was never actually released for it, so I think that to say that the NES is their console of origin is incorrect. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 16:54, 25 November 2015 (EST)

It's an awkward case that just depends on your definitions. Is a ROM designed for a North American NES, being released as a Virtual Console game equivalently to actual North American NES ROMs, a release "for the NES"? Yeah, definitely, it's the wording that's minutely problematic. Like we can say that Mother/Earthbound Beginnings and The Mysterious Murasame Castle are NES games. But actual console of origin for Starman and Takamaru is the Famicom. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 17:00, 25 November 2015 (EST)

The way I see it, the situation with EarthBound Beginnings is basically an exaggerated version of Pit's and Samus's situations, where their game was released for the Famicom before the NES (or at least an NES emulator). Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 17:46, 25 November 2015 (EST)
