It is performed by inputting a dash in one direction, then immediately tapping the control stick in the opposite direction and quickly letting it return to neutral.

Perfect pivoting acts somewhat as a more limited version of the [[wavedash]], as it allows a character to move backward whilst facing forwards and perform any grounded action out of it. To perform this technique, start a glide, glide down a bit so Meta Knight can go up, and then, instead of holding up on the [[control stick]] to glide upwards, tilt and hold the control stick diagonally down and in the opposite direction of which Meta Knight is gliding (if gliding towards the left ledge, tilt and hold the control stick diagonally down and left, and if gliding towards the right ledge, tilt and hold the control stick diagonally down and right). Perfect pivoting

Captain Falcon perfect pivoting repeatedly.

Perfect pivoting is an advanced technique in Super Smash Bros. 4 that allows a character to slide a certain distance backward and perform any action out of it with a fast, correctly-timed input. It is performed by inputting a dash in one direction, then immediately tapping the control stick in the opposite direction and quickly letting it return to neutral.

Applications

Perfect pivoting acts somewhat as a more limited version of the wavedash, as it allows a character to move backward whilst facing forwards and perform any grounded action out of it. This can be used for positioning and set up quick jabs and tilts. The technique is most useful with characters who slide a significant distance from it, such as Captain Falcon.

Distance each character slides from a perfect pivot[1]

Gliding over the edge

Meta Knight can glide straight over any edge without grabbing it. This can be used for mindgames or to simply approach the opponent from an offstage position quicker. Notice how Kakera (white MK) glides straight at the edge and doesn't grab it, and doesn't even have to hold down to go over it.

To perform this technique, start a glide, glide down a bit so Meta Knight can go up, and then, instead of holding up on the control stick to glide upwards, tilt and hold the control stick diagonally down and in the opposite direction of which Meta Knight is gliding (if gliding towards the left ledge, tilt and hold the control stick diagonally down and left, and if gliding towards the right ledge, tilt and hold the control stick diagonally down and right). If done correctly, Meta Knight should glide right up at the ledge and over without grabbing it.
