Anyone know how to make an "or" statement?[edit]

Currently, this template works perfectly fine in terms of individuals - just put {{SSBBMatchupTable|display=mrgame&watch}} on a page and it'll give you his matchups only (works for all characters). However, without an "or" statement, I can't set "display" to "all" and have all the rows appear (for the character matchups page). I've looked around a bit and found nothing. Anyone else have any ideas? Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Stats Guy 20:34, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Do you really need it to do that? Why not just keep the matchup article having the full table and this one set up to display an individual row? While it'd be nice not to have to update both when there's a change, it's certainly workable. Miles (talk) 22:13, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
You have to change how it's coded. For example (imagine this is in html instead of wikitable, because this might be a case where html > wikitable):
<table>
{{#ifeq:{{{gandw|{{{alldisplay|no}}}}}}|yes|<tr><td>Stuff about op</td><td>Moar stuff</td></tr>}}
{{#ifeq:{{{marth|{{{alldisplay|no}}}}}}|yes|<tr><td>Stuff about op</td><td>Moar stuff</td></tr>}}
{{#ifeq:{{{ike|{{{alldisplay|no}}}}}}|yes|<tr><td>Stuff about op</td><td>Moar stuff</td></tr>}}
</table>

This defaults to no, as in no display. The parameter alldisplay can be set on all the variables by |alldisplay=yes, so we can use the flexibility currently in the template. Obviously, you'll have to go around and fix the current usages, but you'll be able to build more out of this. --Sky (t · c · w) 22:25, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Awesome. This even lets us display more than one row at once, which'll make things look better for two/three-in-one characters. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 22:49, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Scrollbars?![edit]

I appreciate that someone's trying to help out those that have lower resolution monitors and such, but I have to disagree with this.

  1. On high-resolution monitors, the full table just barely has to push out the side of the page space, but that tiny push is being interpreted as needing both a horizontal and a vertical scrollbar for a single row and column.
  2. On low-resolution monitors, you'll be using scrollbars whether they're attached to the table or not. And having scrollbars attached to a table is just ugly.

So unless there's some massive benefit I'm missing, the scrollbars will be removed soon. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 15:22, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

I agree scrollbars are bad, but I'm not seeing them anywhere in relation to this... Miles (talk) 18:15, January 2, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, right. Forgot to specify that it only appears when the full table is displayed, that is on the character matchups page. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 18:28, January 2, 2010 (UTC)
?? I just looked there; no scrollbars in sight. Miles (talk) 02:06, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
To the 2nd point, it's the difference between a scrollbar on the entire page and on the table. I much prefer the table and I very much doubt you'll find disagreement with me. It is simply more convenient on the majority of pages where this template is used; the character matchups page is not the only one now.
To the first, I'm not sure I understand the problem. There should be no "pushing out the side of the page space"... --Sky (t · c · w) 01:12, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

New Matchups[edit]

What I link is the correct one. ZS admitted that the one he used was false. We need an admin to revert. MegaTron1XD:p 18:14, 28 February 2011 (EST)

Reverting can be done manually; undos of multiple edits can be done via the page history. Miles (talk) 18:36, 28 February 2011 (EST)

Looks like I have to create some new matchup icons; using 0 - 12.5 - 25 - 37.5 - 50 - 62.5 - 75 - 87.5 - 100 is very misleading and any other ratio shoehorning will be subjective. I probably won't have time until the weekend; until then this template should probably be left alone.

Also: The current ones aren't necessarily "false". They're made by the individual character boards, whereas this one was make by (basically) the guys who made the tier list. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Golden 21:15, 28 February 2011 (EST)

So with the advent of the BBR matchup chart, do we use their version to display on each character's page, or do we go with the character boards'? Imo, we should have an article for both on the Wiki, but for the matchups that appear on the character articles, we should go with the BBR's. Unlike what we have using the character boards', we would have a matchup for everyone, so we won't have "unknown matchups", and we won't have differing matchups on separate articles (this allows for consistency, and won't cause confusion to those who don't know where get the matchups from). While whether the BBR's simpler nine tier system is better than the number ratios is up to subjectivity, the two former reasons make the BBR's better to use. I don't see the advantage to keeping the old one around, really. Unnecessary duplication of data is often confusing. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Researcher 13:45, 1 March 2011 (EST)
The previous matchups were from a different source, in a different style. Some people may consider the matchups from the character boards to be more reliable. There are also several matchups that differ, such as the Wolf vs. Meta Knight matchup. Both the Wolf and Meta Knight boards considered it a 35:65 in Meta Knight's favor, with the Wolf boards saying its his worst matchup along with Dedede. But on the BBR chart, it's only considered a -1 for Wolf, with Dedede, Wario, and Pikachu being considered worse. With such matchup differences, it won't be a mere duplication of data, and some may consider it interesting to see what the character boards say the matchups are (such as myself). As long as we make it clear what the sources of the matchup boards are, I say keep the matchup chart from the character boards unless they forsake the matchup ratios they came up with in favor of the BBR's. I am extremely sorry that this had to happen. Zeldasmash (talk) 13:42, 1 March 2011 (EST)

Order of table[edit]

SmashBoards seems to be attached to the idea that matchup charts should be ordered by the chart data, not the tier list, their rationale being that they don't have to reorder the chart when a new tier list comes out (seeing as tier list and matchup data are independent). On the other hand we've always done tier list order as it's more obvious what the order is and changing it isn't that much of a pain. Should we change to their order or keep on doing what we've been doing? Toomai Glittershine ??? The Superlative 10:14, 30 December 2011 (EST)

I think we should just stick to having it ordered by tiers, as I think it would be more convenient to readers, who are more likely than not to look at the higher tier matchups for their character over the lower tier matchups. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 10:54, 30 December 2011 (EST)
