Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ, Sonikku za Hejiihoggu) is SEGA's mascot and Mario's former mascot rival when the two companies were still competing each other and the second third-party character to be confirmed after Snake.
For the figher information, see Sonic the Hedgehog (SSBB).

When asked if Sonic was going to appear in Melee in an interview with Edge Magazine, Yuji Naka, creator of the Sonic franchise, stated that "It was very close, but time constraints did not allow us to continue with the idea."
