A Low Tier Tournament is a tournament, usually held as a side event, in which players may only use characters in the low or bottom tiers. Otherwise, its ruleset is the same as that of a normal singles tournament. The purpose of a Low Tier Tournament is to expose characters to the tournament scene that would otherwise be rare in mainstream tournaments; only a few players, such as Bum, have been able to place at major tournaments with low tier characters.
