Planet Zebes is a stage appearing in Super Smash Bros. This stage is themed after a recurring planet Samus visits in the Metroid series. There are a total of 5 platforms with one main uneven platform, 3 platforms that can be jumped through and 1 small solid platform that moves vertically. The platforms are slanted however so projectiles may be hard to use.
Planet Zebes can also refer to the area in which a few stages are located: Planet Zebes (from Super Smash Bros.); Brinstar, Brinstar Depths (both from Super Smash Bros. Melee); and Norfair (from Super Smash Bros. Brawl).

*The elevator that used to be on the right-hand side is gone.
*There is a group of cell-like objects, that, if destroyed, will split the platform in two.
*The hovering platforms are arranged differently.
*Sometimes the acid isn't high enough in SSBM's version, and can result in a SD.
*The one in SSB is much larger in retrospect to the SSBM one.

Planet Zebes was a playable stage in the original Super Smash Bros. However, like most other stages (except Congo Jungle, Past Stages: Yoshi's Island, and Dream Land), it did not return in Super Smash Bros. Melee. This stage is banned in standard tournaments.

Planet Zebes can also refer to the area in which a few stages are located: Planet Zebes (from Super Smash Bros.); Brinstar, Brinstar Depths (both from Super Smash Bros. Melee); and Norfair (from Super Smash Bros. Brawl).

Occasionally Ridley is seen flying in the background.

Layout

Planet Zebes is composed of 4 main platforms, and one small moving one to the right. There is one large platform which is very rough, one level platform at the top, and two platforms on either side that slope at an angle.

Acid raises from below the platforms occasionally and will even submerge platforms. Although the top-most platform will always be above the acid. Touching the acid results in damage and serious knockback although it can save your life if you take a serious fall since it knocks you straight up. Obtaining a Starman or any form of invincibility will allow the player to touch and walk through the acid without difficulty. If you are invincible and go down, you will lose a life, as being invincible means you cannot be bumped back up by acid.

Brinstar vs. Planet Zebes

There were a few stages from the original Super Smash Bros. that were heavily modified as opposed to taken out. These stages include: Sector Z, Planet Zebes, and Mushroom Kingdom 64. Planet Zebes, now used as the heading for Brinstar, is easily noticable as its inspiration, as Brinstar features Planet Zebes' trademark lava pools. However, Brinstar is more interactive, with parts of the stage being able to be destroyed.

Similarities

The two stages have several things in common, such as:

 • The music is the same, only slightly remixed.
 • There is still the yellow acid that rises and falls.
 • The lava moves in the same patern in both stages.

Differences

There are probably more differences than similarites between the two stages however. Some differences are:

 • The acid does not have even half the original knockback
 • The platforms on the left and right-hand sides can be tilted if the fleshy column is destroyed. (this regenerates over time.)
 • The elevator that used to be on the right-hand side is gone.
 • There is a group of cell-like objects, that, if destroyed, will split the platform in two.
 • The hovering platforms are arranged differently.
 • Sometimes the acid isn't high enough in SSBM's version, and can result in a SD.
 • The one in SSB is much larger in retrospect to the SSBM one.
