Clone characters are characters that have nearly identical movesets with slight variations in the attacks. They are much easier to include in a game than original characters, as the designers need only to create the character's model, then add the original character's attacks and modify them slightly.
Clones in SSB
- Mario & Luigi & Metal Mario
- Every playable character and their Fighting Polygon Team counterpart
Clones in SSBM
- Mario & Dr. Mario (Many of Luigi's moves are similar to Mario and Dr. Mario's, but some, such as Green Missile, are completely seperate. These similarities have earned the concept the name "Luigification" and lead some to consider Luigi a "semi-clone.")
- Fox & Falco
- Pikachu & Pichu
- Captain Falcon & Ganondorf
- Marth & Roy
- Link & Young Link
- Bowser & Giga Bowser

Replacement
Replacement is a newcomer that had a simular moveset to that of a previous playable character in SSBM, but the previous character doesn't return in Brawl. The replacements also are in the same universe as its predicecer.
