Clone characters are characters that have almost the exact same movesets, but the effects of the moves tend to work differently. The only clone characters in SSB64 are Mario and Luigi, and in SSBM the list was widened to include:
- Mario & Dr. Mario (Many Luigi's moves are similar to Mario and Dr. Mario's, but some, such as Green Missile, are completely seperate. These similarities have earned the concept the name "Luigification")
- Fox & Falco
- Pichu & Pikachu
- Ganondorf & Captain Falcon
- Marth & Roy
- Link & Young Link
- Bowser & Giga Bowser
