Smash B (also known as Forward B and Side B) is a special move that debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It can be performed by pressing the B button while tilting the control stick to the left or right. No matter what direction you turn the control stick, the same attack will be performed. Some characters' Smash B attacks are different depending on whether the control stick and B are both pressed at the same time or a bit after each other. For example, for Samus Aran, tilting the control stick to the left or right and then pressing B causes Samus to fire a weak seeker missile while tilting the control stick and pressing B at the same time will cause Samus to fire a stronger, faster seeker missile.
The Side Special Move (also commonly called, forward B, side B, and smash B in iterations prior to Super Smash Bros. Brawl) is a special attack introduced in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is performed by pressing the special move button while holding "left" or "right" on the control stick (or control pad on the Wii Remote). Some side special moves are different depending on whether or not the control stick (or pad) is "smashed" or simply tilted to the side. An example would be Samus's missiles, where a "tilt" yields a weaker homing missile, and a "smash" yields a stronger, faster missile.
