- Byleth is announced as the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, scheduled for release on January 28th. Additionally, a second Fighter’s Pass is announced. It is revealed to have six fighters in it, and will be completed by December 31st, 2021.

- A Super Smash Bros. Ultimate livestream is announced for January 16 at 6:00 A.M. PST via the Nintendo Versus Twitter.

- At EGS Cup 3, Zackray, Abadango, and Shuton take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in Ultimate singles.
- 12 January 2020
- At Valhalla III, Glutonny, quiK, and Lancelot take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in Ultimate singles; Leffen, Professor Pro, and Solobattle take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively in Melee singles. Tarik & Tru4 take Ultimate doubles; Frenzy & MINT take Melee doubles.
