Inkling (SSBU)
Attacks with a variety of weapons. Covering opponents with ink leads to more and more damage—plus these Inklings are really fashionable!
—"Today's Fighter" description

Inkling (インクリング, Inkling) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Although the default form is female, both male and female forms of this character are playable. They were the first character suggested to appear in the then unnamed Ultimate in its first teaser trailer at the end of the March 8th, 2018 Nintendo Direct, and officially announced as a newcomer in Ultimate's E3 2018 trailer released on June 12th.

Attributes

  • Some of Inkling's attacks use up and apply ink. Characters that are painted with ink take additional damage from all attacks. However, certain attacks use up some of the ink in the Ink Tank, which can be replenished by pressing "B" while using the Shield. Ink also resets when Inkling is KO'd. If Inkling's ink levels are too low, many of her moves will deal less damage and certain specials will have no effect at all.
  • Inkling will transform into squid form while dashing and dodging.

Moveset

Ground attacks

  • Neutral attack: A two-hit combo consisting of a quick finger jab then a kick, followed by a rapid series of spurts from the Splattershot that concludes with a single blast that launches the enemy. The rapid jab covers the opponent in ink.
  • Forward tilt: Swings the Splattershot horizontally ahead.
  • Up tilt: A swinging kick above her head.
  • Down tilt: A breakdance attack that hits twice.
  • Dash attack: A lunging elbow strike after transforming back into humanoid form from squid form.

Smash attacks

  • Forward smash: Swings the Inkbrush.
  • Up smash: Fires a burst from the Blaster above her head. There is a hitbox next to the Inkling that launches the enemy above her before the shot goes off, setting the enemy up for the attack.
  • Down smash: Empties out a Slosher on either side of herself, starting with the front then the back.

Aerial attacks

  • Neutral aerial: A spinning kick that hits on either side of herself.
  • Forward aerial: Dropkicks ahead of herself.
  • Back aerial: Swings the Splattershot straight behind herself.
  • Up aerial: Two spinning kicks that swing in an arc above herself.
  • Down aerial: Swings the Splattershot straight below herself.

Grab attacks

  • Grab: Reaches out to seize the opponent.
  • Pummel: Stomps the grabbed opponent.
  • Forward throw: Fires the Splattershot directly at the opponent, angled diagonally upwards. Covers the opponent in ink.
  • Back throw: Transforms into her squid form, then spins and tosses the opponent behind Inkling with her tentacles.
  • Up throw: Tosses the opponent upward, then turns into her squid form to headbutt them from below.
  • Down throw: Slams the opponent head-first into the ground with one hand.
