In 2019, ''SpongeBob SquarePants'' storyboard artist Kurt Snyder [https://twitter.com/kurtmsnyder/status/1163569564111626240 drew an ad for a Nickelodeon ''Smash'' tournament] which depicts multiple Nicktoons and Nick Jr. characters as ''Smash'' characters. A few months later, Nickelodeon Animation's Twitter account posted the updated version of the poster with many new additions. Below is a list of who each character references.

*While the hands that appear in the picture are meant to represent Master Hand and Crazy Hand, both hands are right hands like Master Hand, rather than one of them being a left hand to match Crazy Hand.
**Weirdly enough, the Chum Bucket hand itself [https://spongebob.fandom.com/wiki/File:Karen%27s_Baby_001.png is a left hand].
**Hans and the Chum Bucket hand are doing Arnold and Gerald's handshake from ''Hey Arnold!''.
*Some of the characters also make references to the show they originated from. For example, Gerald, while dressed up as Pac-Man, is holding up a strawberry, referencing the episode "Downtown as Fruits" where he was dressed as one; Bubble Bass is wearing Kevin C. Cucumber's crown; and Stimpy is wearing his ape outfit from the episode "Monkey See, Monkey Don't".
*Much like how Diddy Kong's hat features the Nintendo logo on it, Darwin's hat features the Nick logo on it.
**Similarly, much like how Mario's and Luigi's hats have a red "M" for "Mario" and a green "L" for "Luigi", SpongeBob's hat has the anchor seen on the Krusty Krab employee hats (albeit retaining its blue coloration instead of being changed to Mario's red), and Danny's has a green "D" for "Danny".

*2 years later, Nickelodeon would license its characters for a crossover platform fighter akin to Smash, ''Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl''. Only 9 of the 25 characters featured in ''All-Star Brawl'' weren't previously featured in this poster: Sandy Cheeks, Toph Beifong, Leonardo, April O'Neil, Shredder, Powdered Toast Man, Reptar, Garfield, and Hugh Neutron.
**The only franchises featured in ''NASB'' to not be featured in the poster are ''Garfield'', which had been acquired by Viacom the same month that the poster was publicly posted, and ''Double Dare''. Additionally, while the ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' franchise is represented in both, the poster uses the characters as they appear in ''Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'', while ''NASB'' uses the designs from the 1987 Fred Wolf animated series, along with alternate costumes based on the adult-aimed 1984 Mirage comics.
