'''Tera''' was a ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' [[supermajor]] held in Rungis, France, from September 1st-3rd, 2023. It is currently the largest ''Smash'' tournament in Europe, surpassing {{Trn|COLOSSEL 2022}}'s record by over 300 entrants. It was also the [[List of largest Smash tournaments#Super Smash Bros. Ultimate|10th-largest ''Ultimate'' tournament ]] up to that point. The winner qualified for a free, all-expenses paid trip to {{Trn|Port Priority 8}}.

==Tournament summary==
The tournament featured several players top 20 players from outside Europe: {{Sm|Sparg0}} from [[Mexico]]; {{Sm|Tweek}}, {{Sm|Light|p=Connecticut}}, and {{Sm|Zomba}} from the [[United States]]; and {{Sm|Yoshidora}} from [[Japan]]. In addition, the tournament featured 42 of [[European Power Rankings 2023.01|Europe's top 50 players at that time]], including 19 of Europe's top 20 players; the only top 50 players not in attendance were {{Sm|quiK}}, {{Sm|Peli}}, {{Sm|Chag}}, {{Sm|OwlBBs}}, {{Sm|CurryGovernor}}, {{Sm|Streakz}}, {{Sm|Vidad}}, and {{Sm|RobinGG}}.

The final seeding of the event caused some controversy due to the perceived low seeding of some players, most notably {{Sm|Bloom4Eva}}, who was seeded 11th, and {{Sm|Luugi}}, who was seeded 14th. This has led some to believe the seeding was meant to manipulate the bracket in favor of European players, as Bloom4Eva and Luugi were seeded to fight Zomba and Light, respectively, in matchups that were favored towards Bloom4Eva and Luugi. However, others have disagreed, with them mostly pointing to Bloom4Eva's underperformances at {{Trn|King Of Fields 95 3}} and {{Trn|Regen 2023}}.

The event was an underperformance for Japan, as all three players failed to meet their seed: #4 seed Yoshidora fell to #13 seed {{Sm|Raflow}} and #6 seed {{Sm|Zomba}} for 13th; #7 seed {{Sm|Jogibu}} fell to #26 seed {{Sm|Supahsemmie}} (upset factor 4) and #8 seed {{Sm|Sisqui}} to place 17th; and #9 seed {{Sm|takera}} fell to #24 seed {{Sm|BassMage}} and #16 seed {{Sm|Tarik}} to place 13th. In addition, Luugi fell to #51 seed {{Sm|big chungus}} (upset factor 4) and #68 seed {{Sm|Youssef}} (upset factor 5) to place 49th, his worst performance at a major event. Other notable upsets prior to top 8 include #27 seed {{Sm|crêpe salée}} upsetting #6 seed {{Sm|Zomba}} (upset factor 5) and #37 seed {{Sm|NaetorU}} upsetting #12 seed {{Sm|Cosmos}} (upset factor 4). Cosmos ultimately placed 25th, losing his bet with {{Sm|EE}} on whether Cosmos could make top 8 at the next major he attended following the bet ({{Trn|Super Smash Con 2023}} was not counted due to Cosmos's injury).

On the other hand, this tournament saw a strong performance from big chungus, who defeated top 20 Europe players Luugi, {{Sm|Oryon}}, and crêpe salée, as well as {{Sm|BassMage}}, to make top 8, making him the highest-placing Swedish player at a major. Having placed 7 places higher than his seed, big chungus qualified for {{Trn|Rise 'N Grind 2023}}, however complications arose as big chungus played {{SSBU|Steve}}, while Rise 'N Grind 2023 had a Steve ban. Ultimately, big chungus was given a free flight to an event of his choice in 2024, later revealed to be {{Trn|GENESIS X}}, while the Rise 'N Grind trip was given to {{Sm|Adrian}}, who placed 4 places than his projected seed (98th).

In top 8, Bloom4Eva faced Zomba, who he was supposed to face in Winner's side before Zomba was upset. Bloom4Eva ultimately won 3-0, claiming his first notable American player win. On the Winner's side, Glutonny lost to Sparg0 3-1 to face Bloom4Eva for 5th. However unlike past matches, Glutonny had a much better time fighting against Bloom4Eva, defeating him 3-0 and notably living past 200% on two separate occasions. Glutonny went on to defeat Light 3-1 and Sparg0 3-2 in the runback to face Tweek in Grand Finals. Glutonny won the first set 3-0 and was ultimately able to take set to 3-2, ending the tournament with a clutch waft and claiming his 4th major win in ''Ultimate'', as well as his first supermajor win on European soil.

Outside of tournament events, there were a couple of issues that took place. Most notably, many players complained that the temperature in the venue was hot, and despite complaints on the first day, the venue remained hot on the second. In addition, the set between Raflow and big chungus had a connection issue in the fourth game, forcing Raflow to throw away his first stock. Despite that, Raflow ultimately won the game with a JV2, winning the set. Finally, the top 256 brackets were accidentally reset, leaving the brackets without proper scores. Several sets in Pool C1 and C5 were also initially reported incorrectly, leading to erroneous final placements for several players; Pool C1 has since been fixed.
