Round 1 Pools:
* In Pool A3, MD/VA player Ace of Flakes, a Jigglypuff main, beat {{sm|The Moon}}, a Marth player who was a contender for Top 8. However, it should be noted that The Moon was not using Marth but was using Fox instead, though this is mostly since The Moon does not like the Jigglypuff/Marth matchup. (Match Score: 2-0)
* In Pool A4, the Fox player SG, from MD/VA, defeated {{sm|DJ Nintendo}}, a top Tristate Fox player. However, it should be noted that DJ Nintendo was using his secondary, Bowser. (Match Score: 2-1)

In order to determine the top two seeds, the three players had to play a mini round robin. Nintendude lost again against Mafia in Peach dittos, and The Beer Man lost in the runback against Mafia. Nintendude then went on to eliminate The Beer Man from the tournament.
