The '''Smash World Tour''' is a series of international tournament circuits created and managed by {{Team|VGBootCamp}}. The series started in 2020 with {{Trn|Smash World Tour 2020}}, but this iteration was severely disrupted and ultimately forced to be cancelled due to the [[COVID-19]] pandemic. Because of the continued effects of the pandemic, {{Trn|Smash World Tour 2021}} held online qualifiers, with offline regional finals and Championship finals. With the pandemic eventually fading, {{Trn|Smash World Tour 2022}} returned to the format previously planned for the 2020 iteration. Nintendo would not license the {{Trn|Smash World Tour 2022 Championships}} or any Smash World Tour activity in 2023, [[Tournament:Smash World Tour 2022#Behind-the-scenes and cancellation|forcing the team to cancel them]].

For the 2020 and 2022 iterations, the circuit follows an overall similar format; for each game a leaderboard is created, with scores based on the performances of players at each tournament in the circuit. The top ranked players in the leaderboard will then proceed to the Championships, alongside the top ranked player(s) in the Last Chance Qualifier.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 iteration employed a different format; region-locked online qualifiers were held during the first phase of the circuit, and the top ranked players proceeded to the offline regional finals during the second phases. The top ranked players in the regional finals then proceeded to the Championships, alongside the 8 top ranked players in the Last Chance Qualifier.
