It was sponsored by [[Major League Gaming]], and was the third tournament in the MLG Smash Series circuit of 2007.

With a total of 256 entrants for singles, it was the [[List of largest Smash tournaments|largest ''Melee'' tournament]] of all time until it was surpassed by {{Trn|EVO World 2007}}.
