Ultimate]]'' [[Major (SSBU)|supermajor]] held in Tokorozawa, Saitama, [[Kantō]] from May 5th-6th, 2024, as the last and largest of three major/supermajor events of the 2024 {{iw|wikipedia|Golden Week|Japan}}. At 2,030 entrants for singles, it was also the largest ''Smash'' event in Japan, the [[List of largest Smash tournaments|ninth-largest ''Smash'' event of all-time]], and the first ''Smash'' tournament outside of the United States to surpass 2,000 entrants.

Not only is Kagaribi 12 one of the largest Smash Ultimate events of all time, it is also one of the most stacked. For Japanese players, only 7 of the [[LumiRank 2023/Japan Top 200|top 50 best players in Japan in 2023]] didn't attend (those being {{Sm|ProtoBanham}}, {{Sm|Jagaimo}}, {{Sm|Atelier}}, {{Sm|HIKARU}}, {{Sm|Sigma}}, {{Sm|Senra}} and {{Sm|Showers}}). Kagaribi 12 also features some of the best players from NA ({{Sm|MkLeo}}, {{Sm|Zomba}}, {{Sm|MKBigBoss}}, {{Sm|Maister}}, {{Sm|Big D}}, etc...), including the current best player in NA, {{Sm|Sparg0}}, as well as {{Sm|Glutonny}} for Europe and {{Sm|Kinaji}} for Oceania.

A number of significant upsets happened in the early bracket. The first notable international player who was upset despite being seeded to make top 128 was #26 seed Big D, who was double-eliminated by #997 seed {{Sm|Ubuge}} 1-2 and 0-2 (upset factor 10) to place 257th, the lowest international placement of the tournament as well as Big D's lowest offline placement ever. Additionally, several top Japanese players were sent to losers very early. #83 seed {{Sm|Ezs}} notoriously lost to one of the English commentators of the tournament, #942 seed {{Sm|Sean from school}} 0-2 (upset factor 7), #46 seed {{Sm|Omuatsu}} lost to #302 seed {{Sm|Az}} 1-2 (upset factor 6), #37 seed {{Sm|Eim}} lost to #220 seed {{Sm|DenKOTA}} 0-2 (upset factor 5), and #30 seed {{Sm|Lv.1}} lost to #227 seed {{Sm|No.8}} 1-2 (upset factor 6). Despite the upset, Lv.1 managed to make a 7 set losers run to place 25th, while Ezs finished at 193rd after losing to Omuatsu; Omuatsu himself was eliminated at 129th, losing to #135 seed {{Sm|Yoshiko}} 0-3 (upset factor 4), whilst Eim was eliminated at 97th, losing to #80 seed {{Sm|Nizemamo}} 0-3.

In top 256, the two biggest upsets were on #24 seed {{Sm|DIO}}, who lost to #105 seed {{Sm|Leaf|p=Japan}} 0-3 (upset factor 5) and #88 seed Kinaji 2-3 (upset factor 4), and #25 seed {{Sm|Umeki}}, who lost to #104 seed {{Sm|Navy}} 0-3 (upset factor 4) and #89 seed {{Sm|Eik}} 1-3. Both players finished at 97th, with this being Umeki's lowest ever offline placement and DIO's second-lowest. Meanwhile, #57 seed {{Sm|Huto}} lost to #72 seed {{Sm|Chicken}} 0-3 and #276 seed {{Sm|haruka.}} 2-3 (upset factor 5), and #42 seed {{Sm|Uame}} lost to #87 seed {{Sm|ElleGo}} 1-3 and #131 seed {{Sm|Nano}} 2-3 (upset factor 4) to place 129th.

In top 128, the biggest upsets of the entire event occurred. #4 seed Zomba lost to #68 seed {{Sm|Lax}} 2-3 (upset factor 9), #8 seed {{Sm|Yoshidora}} lost to #72 seed Chicken 0-3 (upset factor 7), #7 seed {{Sm|Shuton}} lost to #26 seed {{Sm|TamaPDaifuku}} 0-3 (upset factor 4). Also, after upsetting Uame, Nano eliminated #22 seed {{Sm|Jogibu}} at 65th (upset factor 6). In top 64, Yoshidora was eliminated at 49th after losing to #92 seed {{Sm|Kuroponzu}} 1-3 (upset factor 7), his worst placement since {{Trn|Kagaribi 6}}. Finally, #2 seed Sparg0, who after underperforming at the [[Tournament:DELTA 8|previous golden week event]], lost to #31 seed {{Sm|Toriguri}} 2-3 (upset factor 8) and #44 seed {{Sm|Noi}} 2-3 in a reverse 3-0 (upset factor 9) to place 33rd, his worst tournament result since {{Trn|Super Smash Con 2023}}. As such, half of the top 8 seeds were either in losers bracket or eliminated before top 64.

After top 64, upsets decreased in numbers, but all remaining international players were eliminated. #14 MkLeo lost in winners to #19 {{Sm|Snow}} (which include two reverse 3-stock by Snow) 1-3 and in losers to #41 {{Sm|Yamanaction}} (UF 3) 1-3, eliminated at 25th. Zomba was eliminated in Shuton loser's run 2-3 for 25th and #10 Maister, placing 13th, is the highest placed North American player of the tournament, being beaten by TamaPDaifuku 2-3 (UF 3) and #17 {{Sm|Doramigi}} 2-3. 4 other international players matched or outplaced their seed. #33 MKBigBoss lost to Acola and Lv.1 for 33rd, #35 {{Sm|BassMage}} lost to {{Sm|Miya|p=Honshu}} and Yamanaction for 33rd, all in 1-3, #62 {{Sm|Goblin}} lost to Miya 1-3 and Chicken 0-3 for 25th and #50 {{Sm|Jahzz0}} lost to {{Sm|Raru}} 0-3 and {{Sm|Kaninabe}} 2-3 for 25th. Lastly, #6 Glutonny was eliminated at 9th as the highest placing international player, being send to losers by #11 {{Sm|Asimo}} 3-0 and losing the loser's top 8 qualifier to #9 {{Sm|KEN}} 2-3.

Outside of KEN, the other players to enter top 8 through loser's side are Shuton (after a long loser's run defeating {{Sm|Gackt}}, Zomba, Navy, {{Sm|Yaura}} and Asimo), #12 {{Sm|Tea}} (beating {{Sm|Sssr}}, Kaninabe, {{Sm|Akakikusu}} and Raru) and #13 {{Sm|Zackray}} (beating {{Sm|Shirayuki}}, {{Sm|M0tsunabE}}, Akakikusu and Doramigi). On the other side, #1 Acola reached winner's semi-finals rather easily (but going game 5 against Pit main {{Sm|Midorun}} and Yaura), similar to #3 Miya, #5 {{Sm|Hurt}} and TamaPDaifuku, having all dropped only 3 games. As such, only half of the top 8 seeds made into the top 8.

Despite not entering top 8, both Akakikusu, Doramigi and {{Sm|Carmelo}} greatly outplaced their seed. #17 Doramigi finished 9th, beating not only Maister but also {{Sm|Taikei}}, {{Sm|Neo|p=Japan}}, Lv.1 and Toriguri, while #29 Akakikusu beat {{Sm|Rizeasu}}, Lax and Yamanaction en route to a 13th place finish. Lastly, #49 Carmelo placed 17th with wins over Nizemamo, Taikei, {{Sm|Alice}} and {{Sm|Takera}}.

In top 8, both winners semi-finals (Acola vs Hurt and Miya and TamaPDaifuku) went to game 5, but Miya and Hurt came victorious, with Hurt's victory being a upset factor 4. Hurt became the first player not named Miya to defeat Acola since {{Sm|Sonix}} and Sparg0 at {{Trn|Watch The Throne}} in December 2023. In loser's, KEN was swiftly 3-0'd by Zackray's {{SSBU|Pit}}, whereas Tea and Shuton went to game 5, with Tea finally winning. Dropping to the loser's, Acola  defeats Tea 3-1, Zackray 3-0 (who had ended TamaP's run at 5th) before losing the runback against Hurt in loser's finals. In Grand Finals, Miya manage to reverse 3-0 Hurt, especially in game 3 where Miya combo'ed a 6 [[Judge]] into a 9, killing Hurt at only 11%, winning his second P Tier in 2024 after [[Tournament:KOWLOON 9 with Sumabato|Kowloon with Sumabato]]. No international players in top 8 and especially Zomba et Sparg0 underperformances at Kagaribi 12 further proved Japan's dominance over the NA playerbase.
