The tournament had a Doubles bracket in addition to a side event. The preliminaries were 2-on-2, team attack off, 2-minute time matches. The semi-finals may have used the same rules. The finals were 2-on-2, team attack off, 5-minute time limit, 2-stock matches.

The side event, dubbed the "Winning Brawl," was also free to enter and did not have a proper bracket. It was Singles free-for-all matches. If a player won two matches, they got a ''Melee''-themed bandana. Additionally, some players obtained ''Melee'' T-shirts, possibly when bandanas ran out.

The four Finals matches from the four total brackets were recorded and later released on gold-colored GameCube discs at later Toys "R" Us tournament. The disc is known as "Game Taikai Yuushou Kinen - Tokusei SmaBro DX Movie Disc."
