==Sportsmanship controversy==
Going into the tournament, {{Sm|Mango}} decided to sandbag in pools with {{SSBM|Dr. Mario}}, citing a lack of motivation and displeasure of being ranked 3rd on the [[SSBMRank 2022]], which released its top 10 ranking on the first day of the tournament.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/C9Mang0/status/1616641500393377792|title=Mango's lack of motivation}}</ref> He ultimately placed 97th at the tournament, losing to {{Sm|Taj}} and {{Sm|Matteo}}, marking the worst placement of his ''Melee'' singles career. His decision to sandbag sparked backlash from some members of the community for perceived lack of sportsmanship. Following the tournament, Mango released a TwitLonger clearing up his decision. He reaffirmed that he wasn't feeling motivated when going to GENESIS and wanted to focus on watching the Eagles game that weekend, but decided to use his SSBMRank placement as a scapegoat, conceding that his placement made sense. He apologized for acting like he was "bigger than ''Melee''" and stated how he had cleared things up with moky. He also noted his declining motivation for the game, having went to the last three majors mainly for the community, and stated that he had to see a sports therapist the previous year and had hid his struggles in order to provide a positive experience on his stream.
