Evolution 2008, or simply EVO 2008, was the 7th edition of the Evolution Championship Series, a fighting game tournament held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, which took place from August 8th to 10th, 2008 at the wikipedia.
The Evolution Championship Series 2008, or simply EVO 2008, was a fighting game tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from August 8th to 10th, 2008 at the wikipedia. It was the 7th edition of the EVO tournament series and featured Super Smash Bros. Brawl as an official game, replacing Melee from 2007. Over 110 players attended the tournament. CPU's R.O.B. defeated Ken's Marth in grand finals to win the tournament. The tournament was widely criticized for having many items turned on, including the Smash Ball.

It was the second time EVO featured a Smash game on the official lineup, with Super Smash Bros. Brawl replacing Super Smash Bros. Melee from 2007. EVO 2008 was criticized harshly by the competitive community for its ruleset which turned on items, including the Smash Ball, and many stages that were universally banned in competitive play. CPU won the tournament, despite not having any prior experience in competitive Smash, after defeating Ken in Grand Finals in a victory that was widely attributed to the ruleset.
